Whilst I appreciate he's done a spot of filming over here and at the last count his daughter lived in Croydon but he's bloody everywhere at the moment. I thought he might have retreated after the jubilee oddness but there he was at F1 on my TV screen again.

I'm from Croydon. Parts of Croydon are very upmarket. Unfortunately the reputation of the town centre and some parts of Croydon overshadow this.

I grew up in a tree lined street of large detached houses that are now worth a seven figure sum. You would never know that this was Croydon.

He bought a place around Biggin Hill apparently, near the private airport so he can jet in and out.

We used to watch the Red Arrows practising from the hill my school was on.

I reckon his daughter could tell some stories. I can't imagine being the daughter of Tom Cruise and living in a 2-bed semi in Croydon with my husband and cat. Why would you. I'd have an assistant who's sole job was to turn my pillow to the cooler side when I slept.

Someone posted on a gossip site about being friends with his (eldest) daughter when she was younger. They said Tom was a fairly normal dad, just crazy busy. He'd give the kids a choice of a time slot: do you want to have dinner with me? or do you want me to take you to soccer?

You say he should have “retreated” and he keeps “cropping up” like he’s a mole, or Japanese knotweed. What on Earth do you expect from your celebrities - a rationed set of appearances BUT not so many that they cross the classic British threshold of “oh, they’re too big for their boots now”

this is YABU in spades, and even more so because I have literally no idea what your AIBU is

Well he hasn't done anything to hurt me personally. As PP have said he often goes to the F1, he went to see Adele yesterday at Hyde Park and MN doesn't like her either at the moment. I enjoyed Maverick even though I was 'meh' about the original.

It's his 60th birthday today. He can crop up at my house anytime. Grin

He has a house in London and likes the UK so spends quite a bit of time here. As PP have said, he is media savvy and knows when to be overt and when to be in the background.

His daughter does live in Croydon, I know the house well via a friend. It’s not in central Croydon but out towards Addington way. It’s a very normal house

He used the Queen's jubilee interview with Philip Scholfield to plug his latest film. It was mortifying to watch Pip- sycophantic at the best of times - practically wetting himself with joy to be sat opposite him, asking him about Top Gun when it was supposed to be all about the Queen ( I think Graham Norton gets the same memo when Tom graces the show)
I had to switch off.

Oh let me see. Who do we want to be gracing our screens, newspapers and social media. A movie star who can open movies just with his name (as PP said upthread). Or a z list celebrity who will be forgotten as soon as the last episode of the latest trash reality show has aired.

I’m sure Tom pulls in more revenue dollars for the local economy wherever he goes, as compared with a lot of no hopers who are considered celebrities nowadays.
