To feel sad that this is a thing - graduation photos.

Booking DS's graduation photos along with his gown and mortar board hire.

As part of the photo package, you can pay £7.50 for teeth and eye whitening, £7.50 to have your complexion brightened, or a bargain for £12 for both.

AIBU to think its really sad to offer this? I understand that some people will feel unconfident about how they look, but something like this will reinforce that.

Good Lord 🙄

I must check if we need to book photos, thanks for the reminder!

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/07/2022 16:39

It’s very sad. I wished I’d done my hair better for mine on the day but looking back all I can see is my happiness and sense of achievement. I’m beaming and my teeth are my own!

userxx · 03/07/2022 16:41

Grim. No wonder the youngsters struggle.

takeitandleaveit · 03/07/2022 16:42

To be honest, I'd have preferred it if they'd just managed to do my dd's ones actually in focus.

Dressbuying · 03/07/2022 16:45

Yeah I recently graduated and had this option. I didn’t choose any of it. I have yellowish teeth and blotchy skin, and I work bloody hard and got a phd. This is who I am and and I’m proud of it - all of it.

Suddha · 03/07/2022 16:46

What I think is shocking is that they’re charging for it! It’s literally one button click!

ElizabethCaroline · 03/07/2022 16:48

I remember having this when I graduated ten years ago. I chose to have the touch ups because I had quite bad skin at the time and this was an important photo that is now up on the wall of all my relatives houses! So although I don't agree with touching up everyday photos for social media I think for a one off important photo it is a good idea.

ParkheadParadise · 03/07/2022 16:51

Count me in 🤣
If I'd managed to get to university
I would have the works for my graduation pictures
Spray tan
Make up
Hair
Botox
Lip fillers
When I would have had the picture blown up and covering the full wall in my living room.
😂😂😜😂

UrsulaPandress · 03/07/2022 16:52

Ooh I didn’t see that option when I booked DD’s. Not that I would have selected it as she’s perfect in my eyes.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 03/07/2022 16:53

That is sad. Though personally I wish I just had a graduation photo in the first place. When we were sent the info about graduation there was a mention in it about an official photographer and details of prices, but as the first person in my family to go to university I didn't realise graduation photos was a big thing, and I couldn't afford the cost anyway. I didn't mention it to my parents/stepparent and they didn't ask about photos (presumably because they didn't know there was such a thing). It was only on graduation day that I realised most people do have an official photo taken, but it was too late to book by then.

Mumteedum · 03/07/2022 16:55

Yeah not good but it is the way of the world.

Female students on graduation day look like they're off to love island or a wedding these days. Hair extensions, fake eyelashes, nails, heels they can't walk in, showing a ton of flesh.... But that seems to be the norm for many young women.

I am there in my doc martens like i was twenty years ago Grin

daisypond · 03/07/2022 17:00

I had no idea you could book graduation photos. DD didn’t say. She booked her own gown hire. We took our own photos.

To be honest, it's all money making. I don't think it matters. I'm sure you have some lovely photos anyway. At ours you can book in advance and I think there's another opportunity after the ceremony if you decide spur of the moment

ChagSameachDoreen · 03/07/2022 17:21

This was an option in 2003 when I graduated. My father requested it without my knowledge. I've never forgiven him.

Xenia · 03/07/2022 17:21

Dreadful. What is wrong with looking like your natural self?

Why?

HolyMilkBoobiesBatman · 03/07/2022 17:26

This is an option on my kids school photos.
Primary school. It makes me unreasonably angry every time, even though I know I can just decline it.

JimmyMcNultyIsMine · 03/07/2022 17:29

God I was sooooo hungover for mine back on 2003 that, combined with the awful brown background the photographer used, I look like a corpse. No amount of teeth/skin improvements would have helped.

PrimoPiatti · 03/07/2022 17:33

It's nigh on fifty years since I finished my first degree and graduated "in absentia". In fact just about everyone I knew around the time also found better things to do. Changed days I guess, but then we didn't have "proms" either!!

FangsForTheMemory · 03/07/2022 17:35

I'm not sure. I looked like an acne-ridden chipmunk in mine so I might have taken them up on this.

NotSorry · 03/07/2022 17:36

We didn’t click those options either OP, YANBU

SirChenjins · 03/07/2022 17:40

Ir doesn’t surprise me - I’ve been a bit taken aback by some of the sights at both DD and DS1’s graduations. Dress code has certainly become a bit less formal than it was when I graduated, and not in a good way.

Absolutely nothing and kind of makes a mockery of all the hard work they've put in if that's what being focused on!

Ugh. We got asked if we'd like the photographer to airbrush DDs scar out of her NURSERY pics. And they had the cheek to change her into a completely OTT frilly dress as didn't think she looked her best in the dungarees I'd sent her in. One of the many reasons she no longer attends that nursery. Dickheads 🙄
