Asked to move my car.

Parked centrally within the lines of a bay at the services yesterday, there was an empty bay beside me and a car in the next bay parked up against the line. Went to my boot to get something and the owner of the other car asked me if I would move my car as if someone parked in the space between our cars then they would be too near her car. I couldn’t believe what she said. I just told her that I was parked correctly in my bay and I wasn’t moving the car. Is it me? Who does that? I don’t think IABU, but was I?

Were they not parked centrally in there bay?

LampLighter414 · 03/07/2022 09:00

How strange.

No further response from them?

Just ignore and forget. Probably entitled and wanted to see if you were a pushover and save them the hassle of correcting their parking.

cottagegardenflower · 03/07/2022 09:02

Would have got my WTF face and no more.

No they were against the line whereas I was pretty central with space both sides.

Haha, I have got Parkinson’s and have a resting bitch face even when I think I’m smiling because of it so I doubt I looked impressed at her request.

Why didn't she just move to the one next to you and park centrally?

xyzandabc · 03/07/2022 09:12

How very odd. Why couldn't she just move her car over a bit in her space if she was that concerned?

LoudingVoice · 03/07/2022 09:13

How bizarre, she could move her car if she wanted to

Brendabigbaps · 03/07/2022 09:16

Sounds like my neighbour who once asked me to move our car (on street parking) every bin day so their car didn’t get damaged when the bin men pulled the bins thru the gap!

move your own * car!

Pinkdelight3 · 03/07/2022 09:25

YANBU but have to say that a lot of modern cars seem a poor fit for modern parking bays. Those folk need to get together and sort their shit out instead of making ever bulkier vehicles and drawing the lines to suit smaller models. (and just to be clear, I have a small car so it's not my issue but I see it a lot these days)

HeddaGarbled · 03/07/2022 09:34

Unless it was an otherwise completely empty car park and you were doing that weird social-parking thing that people do?

Whammyyammy · 03/07/2022 09:45

Lol. We parked (motorcycle) on the promenade at the sea front last year, last space too. A bloke in the car in front quickly jumps out and shouts to my husband (before we're off the bike) that we can't park there.

Hubby switches engine off and asks me to get off, he then gets off and removes his helmet and the guy repeats his request. My hubby asks why and the guy says he's just arrived and intends to use this space to put chairs on for his family to sit on 🤣🤣
Hubby laughs and declines, guy and his wife moan, we go about our day.

People are bonkers

Tiani4 · 03/07/2022 09:46

Well clearly you were correctly parked in the bay you were in and they were not as they parked over one side up to the line. Glad you have them Resting bitchy face back as it was entirely within their control (and fault! ) to park their own car better so someone parking inbetween didn't hit their car with their car door as they got out.

" I recommend you Park better yourself . I'm parked well, you're not" could have been your answer!! But I bet you were too stunned with their entitlement to answer much!

Nope, busy services,, wasn’t out of the way or anything like that.

Knowing how bad some people's driving is, I'm not surprised at her concern. Just at you being asked in anticipation.

Parking spaces are not designed for the number of SUVs there are either.

Momicrone · 03/07/2022 10:15

Did she have one of those very very special cars that no-ones allowed to touch?

zingally · 03/07/2022 10:15

A shrug and ignore seems the only response warranted.

Chasingsquirrels · 03/07/2022 10:18

I'd have been tempted to move it - into the space NEXT to hers.

Xfox · 03/07/2022 10:31

If she was going to be a CF anyway, why didn't she just park in the middle of the line between the two empty bays and she'd have had loads of room then 🤷‍♀️🙃

The one where you park near several other cars in the hope that if thieves are about, they will target the next car instead?
No, I would never do that (honest 😉)

@Whammyyammy we often get "you can't park your motorbike there" from people, a common occurrence, but we can, we have pay in private car parks exactly the same as cars, very rarely do they have motorbike bays, therefore we park in a car space! (Shout out to the lovely councils and car park owners with motorbike parking with free or reduced price spaces!)

Though I do find when I take off my helmet and they realise it's a middle aged woman they back down, I'm sure young men would get more wrath

bridgetreilly · 03/07/2022 11:42

YANBU, but agree with pp that too many modern cars are being designed without any thought for width of car park spaces, narrow roads, gateways etc etc.

motogirl · 03/07/2022 11:43

Oh at the services last week too, there was no motorbike parking so we parked in a free space right by Greggs, handy because we never leave it unattended, a woman told us to move because she needed the space, she looked younger than me and walked just fine when passed me having parked 10 cars away!

Yes , we have had that a few times with people saying they're car spaces.
