Mortgage company - help!

I have been trying to change the date of my mortgage direct debit for a while. At the moment, the direct debit comes out in the middle of the month. I rang up about two or three months ago and they told me it was too late to change the DD because they needed 10 working days notice.

They then said they would contact me after my next DD had been taken to talk through changing the date.

I haven’t heard anything from them until a letter arrived today dated 29 June saying that they’d changed my payment date to the first of the month. The letter went on to say that my first payment is due on 1 July and that I’d need to contact them directly to arrange a payment because it was too late to change my DD.

I’ve only just received this letter today in the post. The letter says if I am late paying they will report me to a credit reference agency.

AIBU that this is totally unreasonable behaviour on their part? To send me a letter dated 29 June demanding that I manually make a payment by 1 July when I didn’t even receive the letter until 2 July.

I actually also paid this loan off due to a remortgage on 30 June so the loan has been settled.

I will be so annoyed if my credit rating is affected and will be onto them first thing Monday morning.

Phone them up, it's their fault. My bank when we got a mortgage with them had a major technical glitch that for some reason wouldn't accept certain sort codes. Ours was one of them of course. Had to phone up every month for ages until they got it sorted to pay. I was 'late' most months, either from forgetting or it being a weekend. They never penalized me for it, it was their fault.

Thanks very much - it’s just such a threatening letter!

I have redeemed the mortgage now - that’s why I didn’t chase the matter up. It is just ridiculous though to send a letter on 29 June demanding payment on 1 July.

It was paid before 1st July in full so its a non issue isn't it?
