So, I stopped breastfeeding my 18 month old cold Turkey, he was slightly unsettled for a few days but nothing major. I was talking to my friend yesterday and she said she didn’t want to just stop incase she emotionally damages her child 😩 is that what I have done? He seems ok?

Your friend sounds pathetic, OP and not a particularly good friend if she's saying things like that making you feel guilty.

I think you have done amazingly well to breast feed for 18 months. You have given your child the best possible start in life. Ignore your friend. Well done!

I suddenly stopped feeding my oldest at 18 months (when I got pregnant again and it was too painful to continue).

She was absolutely fine. Obviously at that stage most of her dietary needs were met with solid food. Her emotional needs were met with lots of cuddles.

Your friend is being insensitive and projecting her own issues and fears onto you. As long as you are being responsive to your baby's needs they won't be emotionally damaged. I would consider this a warning sign and keep your ears open for any other negative comments from this friend. Any more and you need to spend less time with her and more time with friends who are supportive and kind

I just don’t understand why she would say that knowing it would hurt me.

Why don't you message her and ask? If you tell her that her comment made you feel rubbish and she doesn't apologize then she's not a very good friend. If she apologises and genuinely didn't intend to hurt your feelings then you can forgive and move on x
