How much time to leave at airport if you've travelled from Gatwick via Ryan Air?

Have friends staying who are going back to Ireland tomorrow via Ryan Air from Gatwick. Worried about the queues. Is dropping them off 3 hours in advance too much?

I'm travelling to Ireland tomorrow with Ryanair and have had an e mail telling me to get there 3 hours early. Flying from Stansted.
