Basically this.. so I've always since my DC has been born split it in half, half into savings account for DC, half into our account to cover clothes, shoes, activities etc for DC. This discussion recently came up at a toddler group I go to and everyone said they put it into savings and now I feel guilty that I split it.

So what do you do?

Same as you. Half and half

Musicalmistress · 30/06/2022 22:39

Spent it on the things they needed, couldn't afford not to.

Nyckol · 30/06/2022 22:39

We put it into savings, but you need to do what works best for your family x

FilePhoto · 30/06/2022 22:39

It all goes into my account and is used for whatever is needed that month. Mainly food and bills I'd imagine. I don't think I've ever saved any of it for dc.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 30/06/2022 22:40

Nothing.

It gets swallowed into the household bills. We don't have savings.

AuditAngel · 30/06/2022 22:40

I used mine (when I could still claim it) to go towards the nursery fees that allowed me to work

YorkshireIndie · 30/06/2022 22:41

Umm it goes into the family pot but I save £50 into LO's bank accounts which comes out of my salary.

It was intended to give women money separate from the money earned by the man of the house and therefore a bit of financial independence

Imissprosecco · 30/06/2022 22:41

It's there to be spent on the child. Not on the young adult they'll be in future.

This! It's not a government funded savings scheme.

megletthesecond · 30/06/2022 22:44

It goes into the household pot and gets spent.

PinkButtercups · 30/06/2022 22:45

Use it to cover whatever we need. Just goes into my account. I don't save it.

Hugasauras · 30/06/2022 22:47

Savings for DDs mainly. But it just goes into the pot and then we save X amount per month for our DDs, so it's academic whether it's the CB money or money from our salaries,

DashboardConfessional · 30/06/2022 22:49

It goes into my account and goes towards shoes, clothes, 14 snacks a day and nursery. He always needs something - new waterproofs, swimwear, wellies, etc.

I saved it for the first year though. Didn't spend much on maternity leave.

worriedatthistime · 30/06/2022 22:49

Used to cover kids things what its intended for really, if you can afford to save it great but prob for most they can't

LemonMuffins · 30/06/2022 22:50

Pfft it gets absorbed by household costs.

This. It's not 'for' putting aside for them really, that's nice if you can afford to but it isn't the reason it exists, so I don't feel guilty for spending it.

TimeForTeaAndG · 30/06/2022 22:51

It covers DD's sport club fees.

Tanfastic · 30/06/2022 22:51

Just gets added to my measly wage. Helps pay the bills or new school shoes etc.

Joyfultoes · 30/06/2022 22:51

Cocaine

TeaAndBrie · 30/06/2022 22:51

Ours goes into the pot for normal spending. Some of my DD15 friends apparently get given it as pocket money which I was shocked by 😮

Ponoka7 · 30/06/2022 22:52

My DD has hers go into her credit union account. She uses the credit union for practically interest free borrowing, she pays for Christmas that way. She's a LP and that works for her. I had to use my CB towards the running of the house, as most people I know do.

Undecidedandtorn · 30/06/2022 22:52

We use it for after school club and summer activities.

piglet81 · 30/06/2022 22:52

Spend it on gin and chocolates 😉
No, it just goes into the general pot and gets spent on general life things rather than directly saved.

Snowdropsarelovely · 30/06/2022 22:54

Spend mine on extras for my child such as costumes for dance shows
