It’s shit parking and anyone who’s got the complete lack of awareness to take up more then 1 space is obviously a twat. There is a small possibility that someone else was there before them though..

If someone parked on the yellow line a the front, then back up to the lines at the back? If they parked on the yellow lines at the back then move forward to the lines at the front?

Van drivers (and sometimes stupidly ugly vehicle [SUV] drivers) taking up four spaces in a supermarket car park are my particular hate. That's assuming I can drive to the supermarket, i.e. that someone hasn't parked their car across my drive to stop me getting out.
