Depends on all sorts of things -

Your ages / stages of life
If you live near them
If you regularly spend your weekends / evenings with family and there is a change in that pattern, they are going to notice more than if you live 4 hours away and visit twice a year.
How serious you think it is going to be
How much you chat to your family / friends.
