who don't know where I have asked them to go or to pick me up from my house. I am often met with a blank response and 'never heard of that'

Just yesterday I jumped in a cab and gave the address and the driver uttered 'never heard of that' 'are you sure the address is correct?' (It was). and driving around with me reading out the address at least 3 times.

I travel a lot with work all over the UK and it's incredibly annoying. I remember the cabs in London you gave them an address and they got you there. No-fuss.

Now it seems we have to have our own knowledge of places to get there.

Can you give them a postcode? I can't remember the last time I got in a cab that wasn't using a phone as a satnav.

Satnav replaced any 'knowledge ' in lots of towns.
In ours the option for the drivers to refuse inconvenient or short jobs is causing problems too.
If you need a school run or the shopping centre at peak times forget it. Same with distance at busy times.

I was told that the address I gave y'day was in the next town. It wasn't. Once in I was dropped some way from my destination as the driver couldn't find the place where I needed to be. In my home town, I have to repeatedly give information on the St in which I live because they cannot find it. Often time satnav is used. It's incredibly frustrating and irritating and I feel I have to know where my exact destination is myself before I even get in the cab. This is repeated up and down the country. I am always relieved and surprised when they do know where I am going.
