She was walking home. Police have arrested a man for her murder. Yet another stranger attack on a woman.

Some people still dare to suggest she should have taken a taxi. No, she should have been safe to walk home. I don’t think that’s unreasonable, do you?

It’s so horrible isn’t it. We should all feel free (and be free!) as women to walk wherever we want whenever we want, but that’s still not possible. RIP Zara Aleena 🌺

Junebughustle · 28/06/2022 11:56

The road she was walking on is basically a main road, too. I've walked down it my whole teenage life.

Devastating. She was just on her way to see friends :(

caramac04 · 28/06/2022 11:59

I wish she had taken a taxi but wish far more that women could be safe to walk alone, anywhere and anytime dressed however they want. That is the behaviour change we need and saying she SHOULD have taken a taxi pretty much allows murdering bastards to prey on women who are walking alone - for whatever reason.

Haz1234 · 28/06/2022 12:18

Such a busy road, absolutely shocking. How could someone do this? Her poor family. London streets are not safe for women.

NippyWoowoo · 28/06/2022 12:19

So so sad

pushingpoppies · 28/06/2022 12:27

There's absolutely no guarantee that a woman getting into a taxi wil be safe from a predatory driver either!

ObviouslyNotAFan · 28/06/2022 12:34

Yeah I read this story with a lump in my throat this morning. Just an innocent woman walking down the street was not able to be safe.

I feel so sad for her and her family and friends. She had everything ahead of her and it's all gone in an instant.

RIP ❤️

Comefromaway · 28/06/2022 12:36

This worries me incredibly.

This past week has been a nightmare for my daughter. With the trains on strike and the buses being so full they are not picking passengers up she has found herself in the early hours of the morning with no way of getting home. One night she did call a taxi. It cost her £50, £10 more than she had earnt for that evening's work.

Madbadandusuallysad · 28/06/2022 13:56

Rest in peace, Zara. Another woman lost to senseless violence.

LaLaLouella · 28/06/2022 14:04

It's horrifying- women should be able to walk down a street whenever they like without being victims of male violence.

RIP Zara x

Awful.

Where is the outcry, this seems to be low level reported, not like SE.

I don't want my girls to grow up in this.

I wish she could have taken a taxi and been sure she would be 100% safe. As it was she had a choice of ways to get home and none came with guarantees.

I saw it reported in all the main papers quite quickly after it happened, and I do think there has been an outcry about it (as there should be).

I think SE’s case was unique because, unlike other cases involved murdered women over the past couple of years:

  • she was missing for several days before she was found
  • her murderer worked as a police officer (ie. the public relies on the police to protect us, so it’s horrifying to no longer feel safe around them)
Both those things understandably created panic and worry, and then a huge outcry. It’s very important that SE’s case placed a spotlight on violence against women and girls, but I don’t think we can directly compare what happened to her to what has happened to other murdered women, because it is very different.
the80sweregreat · 28/06/2022 19:06

It is so so sad , she had a glittering career and her whole life in front of her and then it was gone.
It is utterly heartbreaking.

HoldingTheDoor · 28/06/2022 20:36

Depressing and sickening doesn't begin to cover how it is to read about yet another woman dying a terrible death at the hands of a man. She didn't die because she didn't take a taxi. She died because some worthless piece of shit man decided to take her life. And even if she had taken a taxi, she may have encountered another John Worboys. Women just can't win, no matter what we do.

RIP Zara.

SNWannabe · 28/06/2022 20:44

RIP Zara. Awful and senseless loss… fucking man, hope he dies alone and in pain in jail. And burns in hell.

Indeed, I'd probably rather take my chance walking along a busy main road.

It's awful - we get one of these murderers off the streets and another one pops up to murder another woman.

catandcoffee · 29/06/2022 12:53

So angry another Woman murdered by a man..... she was just walking home.
He's been charged with murder, attempted rape and robbery.

Her poor family #zara

OhMadone · 29/06/2022 13:00

RIP Zara

my thoughts are with her family and friends 💐

Upontherooftops · 29/06/2022 13:37

It's so sad and way too common.

BringMeTea · 29/06/2022 13:43

Her family's statement is very eloquent and powerful. RIP Zara Aleena.

Babymamaroon · 29/06/2022 19:59

RIP Zara. So heartbreaking

Blackopal · 29/06/2022 20:07

Another senseless loss.
Just, why? I don't understand who these men are and why they feel the need and the entitlement to murder a woman going about her life.

I am so sorry for Zara Aleena and her poor family, how they are going to bear her loss I don't know.
Actually not a loss really it? A heinous theft of her right to exist. RIP

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 29/06/2022 20:22

So sad! Least an arrest has been made and fairly quickly. Know doesn't make it better or change the outcome but least family won't be waiting around for answers as to who.Assuming he is the one..

The taking a bus/taxi argument is silly. Buses don't do door to door drop offs and so still would've had to walk. Not all taxi drivers are exactly safe! Plus still gotta get to your door. Shouldn't have to change ways of life. Its stupid and silly and frustrating.

Rinatinabina · 29/06/2022 20:22

Rest in peace Zara 💐
