I have a recent issue with a long standing commercial neighbour . Having lived harmoniously for a decade or so, they've recently found a money-maker that unfortunately is incredibly noisy. The noise renders our garden unusable and makes being inside even with all doors and windows closed, unpleasant.
After 6 months of complaints, the council finally visited and agreed it was a nuisance, and they were served a noise abatement notice. Nothing changed, more complaints to the council went unanswered, before being advised that the neighbour was planning on moving the noise-making equipment in the summer, so we needed to wait until then.
Fast forward to now, and it appears precisely no changes are planned. The noise making equipment is pretty much the same position as previously (has moved maybe 2 meters). I've contacted the council once again but not heard back. I've contacted local councillors, who have done nothing apart from repeat the assurance that the noise-making equipment would be moving, despite the fact it's clearly not!
I cannot deal with the noise (think revving car engines/sirens for several hours on a Sunday afternoon), it drives me mad - I'm leaving the house every time it starts at the moment, which isn't a long term solution. I'm not adverse to noise - there's always been some noise from this neighbour which many would find unacceptable, but I've not had an issue with it.
The council does not seem interested in the neighbours adhering to the noise abatement notice. Who needs to enforce the noise abatement if they won't? Going to the press is not an option as pretty obvious where I live and already feel quite threatened by the crowd this "attraction" draws (99% male). AIBU to expect the council to be able to deal with this issue. If not, any suggestions re. next steps?!
