Cancelled Ebay

Anyone else had enough?

Was selling a one off high price item and they wanted me to let the buyer collect before getting paid. There is no way I'm comfortable with that and I don't remember reading anywhere that has changed now.

Also fees are so high. I've asked them to cancel.

More hassle then it's worth? Anyone else.

Buyer collect is always cash only. Never let them pay online for this. That's how you get scammed as you cant prove they received it.

@dottypotter think you've misunderstood something.

www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/postage-delivery/changing-delivery-address-method/collection-person?id=4056

The buyer arrives, checks it's ok and then gives you cash, and a code number that you, the seller inputs the code to the app to notify eBay the items has been collected.

@Philisophigal don't make up bollocks you clearly know nothing about.

We've scaled back the type of items we sell on ebay, there are safer ways to sell risky or higher value things. We wouldn't use ebay to buy some items either. I get that ebay need to keep buyers happy but the forums are full of unhappy sellers, especially since they scrapped pay pal.

This.

The old PayPal cash on collection scam doesn't work any more because of the introduction of scannable codes.
It's now perfectly safe for an eBay item to be collected as long as you follow their procedures.

i wouldnt have listed a high value item if id known did they tell everyone it changed i wasnt aware.

I sold a high value item recently. The payment hadn't actually hit my account when the buyer collected (using the scanned code) - is that what you mean, OP? With the new direct payments system it does take a few days to reach you, but the buyer will have paid and the money will arrive in your account in due course. If the buyer hasn't paid they don't get the code so can't pick the item up - it's perfectly safe.

Fees are 12.5% instead of the old 10% but you're not paying PayPal fees, so you're not actually losing out and overall the fees you pay are pretty much the same as pre-direct payments.

Yes, there were loads of emails about it in the run-up to the change.

where is a good place to sell high value items.

firstly ebay said i would have to release the item then claim payment, now they have paid me into the bank.

I’ve also had enough but from the buyers perspective. 4 out of 5 items I’ve bought recently have been “dispatched to the wrong customer” 3 weeks late (and then never arrived), a brand new item marked as an age 14 that wouldn’t have fitted a 5 year old or simply never ever sent.

Too much trouble!

been and done it. · 06/07/2022 12:08

I use Ebay a lot and I'm not sure this is right? in fact there's a message that pops up saying until funds have been received don't send any items to the prospective buyer... I got a message only yesterday by email advising my item had been paid for so now I should send the item.
