Anniversary bubbles - lighthearted

It’s our wedding anniversary. We’ve been away for the weekend to celebrate (it’s been lovely). Unbeknown to my husband I phoned the hotel and organised for a bottle of bubbly to be in the room on arrival. Unbeknown to me, my husband did exactly the same thing! We arrived, checked in, went to the room and there are 2 open bottles of champagne in their buckets with 2 glasses…
We laughed about it at first and then realised that we needed to drink a blooming bottle of champagne each before we went out (meal booked etc). They were both opened. AIBU to think the hotel should have realised what happened and left one unopened? We did our best but couldn’t drink them both which is such a waste!

Yeah you'd have thought they'd have used a bit of common sense but stick a teaspoon upside down in the top of the bottles and they'll still have fizz when you get back

mirrorballer · 26/06/2022 18:51

I think I'd ask them to replace a bottle or take it off the bill. It was really silly to open both.

Pinot4me · 26/06/2022 20:22

We didn’t say anything. I didn’t want to start the weekend off with a moan… it just seemed daft to me… no common sense applied!

They shouldn't have opened either! What if you'd been delayed and it had gone flat? I've been lucky enough to have champagne / cava / Prosecco in rooms a few times and it's never ever been open! Shock

Milly90 · 26/06/2022 20:26

I’m so surprised they opened them!!! What if you hadn’t come to the room for ages seems bonkers

I’ve had champagne arranged in my hotel rooms many times and never ever been opened by hotel staff In advance so in that note yanbu

ManateeFair · 26/06/2022 20:27

Champagne doesn’t need a bottle opener or a corkscrew and doesn’t really need to breathe, so they shouldn’t have opened either bottle.

I’d quite like an excuse to knock back a bottle of champagne to myself though.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 26/06/2022 20:31

I think opening either is daft. I would expect it chilling but unopened. For them to provide two opened bottles is very silly and wasteful.

Toughtimesagain · 26/06/2022 20:31

I would definitely have taken one for the team 😂

FlissyPaps · 26/06/2022 20:31

I’d have been annoyed if I’d got to a hotel and the bottle was already opened.

But perhaps this stops guests from taking an unopened bottle home, rather than drinking it in the hotel (if the champagne is free of course.)

Happy Anniversary hope you both had a fabulous weekend💐

Pinot4me · 26/06/2022 20:33

I’ve never had it opened before either (which is what it seemed so odd) …
it looked like it had only just been put in the room (chilled glasses) . The staff were lovely. I didnt want to moan but it was just so bonkers… we both paid for it up front over the phone - we laughed because we both thought of the same thing but really didn’t want to be sloshed before we even went out.
I think I’m going to drop them an email just explaining and see what they say…

They shouldn't have opened them
They might have poured cheaper fizz into the labelled bottle ....

Blockyourears · 26/06/2022 20:58

Loads of champagne in hotel rooms never opened! Even if it's delivers whilst you're there, they ask if you want it opened?

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 26/06/2022 21:14

Just drink the bastards!
