I have just returned from a walk in local woods- I saw something nestled in the hollow of a tree- I thought at first it was some empty wild bird eggs, but on closer inspection not-. It looks like remnants of an animal/human? Quite large, maybe 5-6 cm wide. We are rural, so a lot of deer, foxes, badgers etc., but seems larger that that.

Looks like fungus.

Americano75 · 25/06/2022 19:53

Jesus, WTF is that? I'd report that just in case.

Cakeandcoffee93 · 25/06/2022 19:53

Teeeeeeeth

ManateeFair · 25/06/2022 19:54

Looks like either deer or sheep to me.

Georgeskitchen · 25/06/2022 19:54

It definitely looks like teeth

DrRuthGalloway · 25/06/2022 19:54

Top jaw of something? I don't think it's human as too many molars...I hope

ShinyMe · 25/06/2022 19:54

That's the upper palate and teeth of something- looks a bit like a sheep, but too small at 6cm and not in a tree. Not fox, they have cat/dog like teeth.

PurpleButterflyWings · 25/06/2022 19:55

No it does like teeth now. On closer inspection!

snowflake29 · 25/06/2022 19:55

There's an awful lot of molars to be human teeth! I'd just assume weird fungus or if it's solid then animal remains.

It’s not human.

SlashBeef · 25/06/2022 19:55

Some kind of mushroom?

Ghislainedefeligonde · 25/06/2022 19:56

It’s not human, maybe deer or other large mammal

PonyPatter44 · 25/06/2022 19:56

It looks like teeth, with an upper jaw and palate. I dont think its human, but I am not a dentist!

Ohtoberoavingagain · 25/06/2022 19:56

Lamb? Or small sheep? Upper jaw, I think. Flat teeth put it as some sort of ruminant, grass eating mammal.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 25/06/2022 19:57

Some animals top jaw remains that a predator took up a tree to eat.

Americano75 · 25/06/2022 19:57

It’s not human.

I zoomed in after posting and can see it now. Creepy AF though.

Yeah maybe animal remains (teeth) with fungus growing around them.

thefirstmrsrochester · 25/06/2022 19:57

It doesn’t look like human remains, the jawbone of livestock I think.

OrangeVelour · 25/06/2022 19:58

Red deer possibly?

Ohtoberoavingagain · 25/06/2022 19:58

And it’s not human, — these are all molar type teeth, humans have incisors, canine teeth plus molars, all are different shapes.

LetMeTryAgain · 25/06/2022 19:58

Dentist here. Definitely not human!

TheWayoftheLeaf · 25/06/2022 19:58

Jaw of a dead herbivore - no canines

gwenneh · 25/06/2022 20:00

Looks like deer.

@ShinyMe It doesn’t matter that it’s in a tree hollow - that won’t be where it died. It will have been left there by a fox or a crow or something. I’ve got a few animal skulls at home and this looks like the jawbone of a sheep (or lamb) or a deer. Definitely a grazing animal.

speakout · 25/06/2022 20:03

Thanks- has put my mind at ease. I see now no canine teeth, although the incisors are missing. Freaked me a little as it is the same size as a human jaw. I live in a rural area, so lots of farm and wild animals.
