Can someone reassure me about toddler and baby illness ?

My toddler has come down with a fever / cough / runny nose. She's OK.

I'm now really worried about my newborn. He's 8 weeks and no longer breast fed. Just formula.

It's fine right ? This must happen all the time that babies catch stuff from their older siblings ? My first didn't catch anything until she was much older. So I'm just worried now also because not breastfed.

I've had a sore throat all week. So I'm not sure if that's the same thing as my toddler now has. Baby seems fine so far. Fingers crossed !

I remember my first not being ill at all until starting nursery a little after he turned 1. We have a very small gap, so my poor baby ended up catching all the nursery bugs form him! They'll be fine, the only difference is mine were/are both breastfed, but having formula instead won't make them any more at risk. Mine had various colds and even a sickness bug, that I can remember. You do feel awful for them, but they will be fine. Just remember to seek medical advice if they do have any worrying symptoms at any point, but I don't think illness is something to worry about in general.

It's very common and normal and usually it's totally fine. But your baby is very young so, if at any point you are worried, you can ask a doctor to check them over.

I remember being really worried when ds1 got nora virus when ds2 was a few weeks old. ÃŒn the event he didn't catch it, so you may be lucky. But yes, second children give their immune systems a good workout at a younger age than their elder siblings.

Unfortunately the older one does tend to pass things to the baby. My second was much sicker in her first year of life than my first was. I think she was a bit less sick when starting nursery though as she’d already cycled through so many bugs. It is more worrying when they’re so little though.

I’ve never posted on here but I feel your pain I had a 15 month old then a new born my 15 month old never had even a cold because of Covid but then now he’s mixing he’s constantly Ill which means my little one catches everything he’s formula fed & I think it’s just strengthening his immune system so when he does go out to school his will be stronger than my eldest who seems to do one day at nursery and then he’s bad again! So I’ve put a positive spin on it cause I was going out my mind thinking it’s non stop illnesses in my house and it wasn’t normal but now with a 3 year old and a 1 year old who still catch everything I’m a lot more at ease :) x
