Roe vs Wade Supreme Court decision made me think of the poem First They Came by Martin Niemoller.... I wrote my own version.
First they came for the People of colour, and I did not speak out -
Because I am not black,
Then they came for the gays, and I did not speak out -
Because I am not Queer,
Then they came for Trans people, and I did not speak out -
Because I am not Trans,
Then they came for the Women, and I did not speak out -
Because I am not a Woman,
Then they came for me -
And there was no one left to speak for me.
In reality, I am a woman and I do speak out, raised by a radical feminist in the 1980's I've marched and protested with everyone from Gays and Lesbians support the Miners at Pride to Free Mandela to BLM (that's almost 40 years of protesting). But I feel frustrated and helpless and sickened by the current marginalization of Women .
It's a short walk to Gilead.
