To ask if I can have my appointment slot back

I go to counselling and my therapist has been off for a few weeks. He returns to work next week and I did have an appointment booked for Wednesday, but then a couple of weeks later something came up and I had to change it. The next appointment he could offer me was for the following week, which I agreed to.

Tbh I am struggling quite a bit and the thought of having to wait another two weeks before a counselling session is hard. I totally appreciate that I was the one who requested to change next week's appointment but I had been hoping he could do a different time that day or an alternative day in the same week. I also appreciate that he could quite easily now be busy during my original time slot. But WIBU to ask him if he's still free for my original appointment on Wednesday? I feel a bit embarrassed to even consider asking but I'm really not feeling great and at least I would know for definite whether or not he's still available. I would just have to cancel the other commitment that came up.

Definitely ask. The worst that can happen is that he can’t do that time any more. And he might have “emergency” slots available for just this kind of situation.

Definitely don’t feel embarrassed. You’ve done incredibly well to recognise a problem and identify a constructive solution.

YANBU to ask.
Equally, HWNBU to say he's now busy at that time.

Just contact him as you usually would and ask Smile

Ask, but be understanding if it's not possible

Yes absolutely reasonable to ask, but it's possible they'll have filled the slot, so they might have some alternatives you could discuss as well.
