To think employers are taking the piss when it comes to wages?

I frequently get approached by recruiters on linkedin for job opportunities. But when we discuss wages many of them propose wages only slightly higher or even lower than what I currently make and some even get pissed off when I say no to that.

Sometimes I even get recuiters who initially propose a decent wage, but when I respond to their messages or we have a phone call, they almost immediately try to haggle me down. They usually say something like "your chances will be better of you ask for less" or "you're pricing yourself out of the market.

I really wish they would stop wasting my time like this. Do they seriously think inflation does not apply to me? That my groceries, rent and bills have not gone up as well? That for me to be willing to switch from a steady contract to a new temp contract would not require a significant increase in my current wage?

Am I missing something here?

No. Wages are properly rubbish atm.

Looks like it's recruiters you have an issue with not employers. I'm sure the employers are equally annoyed at being presented with those beyond their budget.

It’s not personal to you is it. Recruiters are hired by the employers to get the best staff at the best price, they are just doing their jobs, it’s not personal. Wages are crap at the minute though so it’s not surprising that you may have to wait longer for a job with the pay you want.
