Earn upto £34,800 and claim fsm?

As a single mum, working 40 hours a week, getting too up benefits. I am not entitled to fsm for my children.

I understand that this is for those unable to access other public funds, but they can earn upto £34,800?

That’s family income for a family with two kids in London.

I think that’s ok?

There are no “top up benefits” for people with no recourse to public funds

They are not entitled to child benefit or Tax Credits. This is all they will get.

My friend is a single parent works part time and gets some UC

She gets a lot of benefits
Has no mortgage or rent as her ex bought her a house outright
Gets good maintenance
And is better off than us as a couple working

And gets free school meals so in the school holidays gets £15 per week per child towards food shopping

It's not her fault she's only getting what she's entail too but I'm sorry but I think it needs to be looked at more closely she is not short of money and she could work more than 12 hours a week there are people working without UC who have less money coming in and get no help

I'm a single mum too and my children don't get FSM either.

These families will not be entitled to any benefits like child benefit and UC etc. it's a way to ensure the children don't go hungry at school and still get one meal a day. Hungry children find it hard to focus in lessons. Don't see the issue. Can't imagine why anyone would resent children free meals to be honest. School meals are hardly a 3 course platter at the Ritz

Not going to complain about kids being able to eat. It can also be really tough for NRPF families.

I was appalled when chatting to a mum friend who is a refugee with no recourse to public funds, not allowed to work, and can't get FSM! She is relying on food banks and spending all her days volunteering at different charities that then give her free things in return for her time.

Totally agree.

It can be incredibly difficult for families who are in this situation. Far too many rely on food banks. It's not like FSM money is going in the hands of the parents. I will never complain about a child being fed. There are many many families who pocket benefits and the kids see zero of it. Thats what you should be angry at.

Are you seriously getting angry because a child is given a free school meal. I'm utterly shocked, actually.

I am not a Mum and am not keen on children because of my own childhood experiences (setting the scene but my own issues to deal with). But I would still want and expect children to have food and enough of it that don't go hungry. As well as access to appropriate healthcare and education.

There are more children in the UK who live in poverty than are entitled to FSM. Now this I find shocking and inexcusable.
