Gatwick today - anyone done it lately?

My DM is flying from Gatwick to Greece this evening, we're just over an hours drive from the airport. I was just wondering if anyone has done it (especially this week) and how the queues were, and the traffic getting there because of the train strikes?

I have kept an eye on Twitter and actually it all seems to be fine, the biggest queues seem to be for Pret or restaurants etc the other side because everyone gets there extra early Grin but DM is still a bit worried!

shoehorning this bit in and saying AIBU to ask you lot cos her stressing out is stressing me out...

My brother flew to Spain on Monday, and says it was absolutely fine. Apparently he had to wait an hour for Nandos. But everything else was smooth. He left on time, arrived in time, all baggage present and correct.

We flew from South Terminal on Monday. Parked the car at 12, was sitting in departures with a glass of wine well before 1. No bother at all.

We were flying Norwegian Air, so no queue for check in/bag drop (they only had 2 flights going all afternoon). We also booked fasttrack security, but didn't need it - there was barely a queue.

Not sure it's the same if you're flying with one of the carriers operating multiple flights, but we sailed through!

Thats reassuring Smile I'm sure it'll be fine but DM always seems to have something go wrong when she travels (lost baggage, illness or some other form of chaos), I tell her she's jinxed Grin

Flew out of Gatwick South Terminal to Palma on Sunday. All very uneventful. Check-in and baggage check very quick. Long queues for sone of the air side restaurants/cafes (several options seemed to have closed down, so busier elsewhere) but otherwise all absolutely fine.

I flew from there last week and it was fine (albeit no train strikes). Long queue to enter the security area, but once you did it moved very quickly.

You're bang on about Pret etc. Don’t start looking forward to your coffee and pastry!

Following with interest - flying to Mauritius from Gatwick South on Tuesday! Booked the airport lounge so hopefully that will ease some of the restaurant stress

stratforduponavon · 22/06/2022 08:25

Booking an airport lounge is a great idea! We flew Heathrow 10 days ago and all OK although food outlets were very busy. Who drinks pints at 0730 in the morning is beyond me though!!

She's just arrived at Gatwick, which I'm laughing about as her flight isn't until 6pm... fully expecting some texts moaning about how bored she is hanging around Grin
