Inspired by recent posts about how can you afford? Type threads
Do you use gross or net as the figure?
Do you include other income than your employment earnings eg benefits or side hustles?
For example if I had gross of 45k my net would be 34k
if I get disability benefits of 4k do I include that?
if I have a side earner such as eBay selling of 2k a year do I add that on?
with these examples I could say household income is 45k plus 4k plus 2k so 51k
or do I say my earned net as 34k so quite a difference

I’d say you have a total income of £51k

luxxlisbon · 21/06/2022 22:48

I have never heard anyone refer to their net salary.

if I get disability benefits of 4k do I include that?
if I have a side earner such as eBay selling of 2k a year do I add that on?

Yes, it is income.

FlimsySteve · 21/06/2022 22:49

Either 51k gross or 40k net? It's not just you salary that's your income.

FemmeNatal · 21/06/2022 22:50

I think everyone would quote total gross.

PegasusReturns · 21/06/2022 22:52

No one quotes net salary.

I’d expect to include all sources of income.

heyitsthistle · 21/06/2022 23:26

I don't even know what my net salary is. I always quote gross, plus any extras I might get (bonus, stock options, etc).

JaceLancs · 22/06/2022 01:08

It was because of the holiday thread!
when DC were little I used to save my work expenses and keep them for holidays could be between £1200 and £2400 a year which paid for 1-2 SC holidays a year
i would fund holiday extras, cost of Xmas and DC birthdays out of my eBay income so they were on top of my meagre salary plus benefits
