Can't decide what to do with holiday if passports dont come.

Travel date 7 days from today. Going to Spain for my friend's wedding. Myself DH and teen dc1 have passports. DCs 2 and 3 still no passports in.

If the passports aren't here on time:

YABU - myself and dc1 go the holiday (DHs suggestion)

YANBU - none of us go the holiday (my thoughts)

Either way we will all be miserable

I’d go with your DHs suggestion. Not least because backing out of a wedding with a week to go for a non emergency reason is rude as fuck.

purplecorkheart · 21/06/2022 13:52

If it was just a holiday I wouldn't go, however as it is a wedding I would do what your dh suggests to be fair to the Bride and Groom. Just curious but did you apply for the passports as soon as you got the date of the wedding?

KnitOnePearlOneDropOne · 21/06/2022 13:53

Go with DH suggestion

Bonkerz · 21/06/2022 13:54

If you have been in the system longer than 6 weeks and have flights booked you can turn up at any office and try to get expedited within 48 of flight

Delatron · 21/06/2022 13:54

Are you going specifically for the wedding or is at a holiday tagged on?

I’d go with the older DC to not miss the wedding as that would be poor form. And cancel the rest of the holiday if possible? So fly out for a few days.

MeltorFreeze · 21/06/2022 13:59

Tricky. How old are the DC?
Is your friend a godparent to DC1? if yes, do what your DH says and go with DC1. If not, go by yourself and leave all the DC home with DH!

Unless there's a large age gap between DC1 and the others which could justify them coming with you.

Star81 · 21/06/2022 14:02

Have you contacted the passport office with such a short time until you have to go. You can email them if travel working 2 weeks as then seen as urgent . Need proof of travel etc. loads online about how to do this

mayaknew · 21/06/2022 14:18

I've done everything I can to get them on time but it's not guaranteed. I'm waiting on the upgrade team getting back to me. If I havent heard anything j plan to go back to my local passport office on Saturday (I was there on Friday but told to wait on upgrade team)

But I need to be realistic that they might not come.

You go, it's a wedding, they'll have paid for your attendance in some form. Just hope the others turn up.

Quitelikeit · 21/06/2022 14:20

You should only go to your passport office 48 hours prior to your departure date. Anything prior and you will be turned away.

go onto Facebook and look up the passport page. So much advice on there

mayaknew · 21/06/2022 14:26

48 hours would be Sunday though and they are closed

YABU

FlissyPaps · 21/06/2022 14:28

How old are younger DCs?

Who’s wedding is it? Your relatives or DH’s?

mayaknew · 21/06/2022 14:32

Dc1 is 17 younger ones are under 10.

Its my friend's wedding

We've scraped every penny we have to get this holiday.

What is the status of the passports when you enter the tracking numbers?

SandyWedges · 21/06/2022 14:44

Why would you be miserable? It would be great bonding time for the 2 of you.

LIZS · 21/06/2022 14:52

Take dc1 and rebook flights if passports come early enough for trip for younger ones. Presumably you would get a minimal if any refund now.

MeltorFreeze · 21/06/2022 14:56

Oh, in that case DC1 staying would totally change the dynamic and activities for your DH; so go with DC1 and enjoy some time together before they're too old to want to holiday with you!

MeltorFreeze · 21/06/2022 14:58

I'd even consider re-booking DH and younger DC 's for the next half term, saving like crazy for your fare and leave DC 17 at home for a week.

bellabasset · 21/06/2022 14:59

It's very disappointing for you but your dh has made a practical suggestion for you and your older dc. Hopefully the younger ones passports will arrive in time

Rewis · 21/06/2022 15:01

It's your friends wedding and your husband is encouraging you to go. So I think you should go. It's not just a holiday.

Twizbe · 21/06/2022 15:05

I agree with DH. Take your eldest and go and have some fun.

No point everyone losing money because of this.

Snoken · 21/06/2022 15:32

My first choice would be you and DD go, second choice (if this is possible) you, DH, DD go, and the younger ones stay at home with a babysitter/grandparent etc.

You and DD won't be miserable. In fact she will probably be really happy to have you all to herself. Just make it fun.

mayaknew · 25/06/2022 19:34

Dilemma over. Collected the passports this morning 🍹🍹
