Had a job interview this morning, went completely blank and looked like an idiot.
Has anyone else done this?

Properly cheered me up these! Blowing a kiss, walking into a cupboard...gold! 😂

Turned up at an interview in my best suit, posh bag etc, and........ my manky old trainers. I'd put them on rather than scuff my shiny high heels in the car and proceeded to leave them at home. I got the job.

Overslept the morning of my police assessment centre in 2004. Shot there in an absolute panic, made it with seconds to spare before it began. Aced it - probably because I didn't have time to worry about the actual assessment part.

Had to phone the most recent recruitment centre (civil service) to ask if there was disabled access as I'd broken my foot and would be on crutches. No-one had asked for reasonable adjustments so they actually had to move the interview location for me. Got the job despite nearly twatting my new boss in the face with my badly handled crutches as I sat down. In fact, with the type of humour shared on this team it probably helped my case!

I had the WORST interview experience ever.... for basically the job I already had but for my local council rather than the one I worked for which was a longer journey - had always been my plan to work there.

So... was meant to be 11am but they contacted me the day before and asked to move it to 4.30.

My parents in law were arriving that morning (arranged before the job interview) and so where I would have been able to go off to the interview and come back to them in the house, they arrived with their hustle and bustle...

  • first thing in the morning hairdresser (was booked before the time had been changed) - got a replacement hairdresser who gave me very middle aged haircut not happy
  • then went to collect interview jacket from dry cleaner as it had been unexpectedly closed the day before - jacket wasn't there as they had been outsourcing their work to somewhere else - was expected back later that day they hoped!
  • collected inlaws from station - lost brand new birthday present earring in the process - very sad and still angry for bad hair and no jacket
  • hated hair, in laws doing my head in, annoyed at losing the earring and having no jacket decided to have a bath, used a lush bath bomb to help calm down - had bath - bath bomb stained me pink.. completely pink scrubbed and scrubbed and managed to get myself clean in the bits that could be seen but still had pink tummy which stained my white shirt
  • in laws faffing made them tea, made them lunch, made small talk etc...
  • got dressed in interview clothes MIL questioned my choice of clothing.
  • managed to get jacket from dry cleaners (phew)
  • decided I needed to get out so set off 1.5 hours early for the interview - with a book and the idea that I could have a coffee.... get away from inlaws
  • some traffic incident - half an hour on a bus for a 10 minute journey
  • got a takeaway coffee with a view to sitting in the park by the town hall and composing myself
  • spilt coffee down my front rushed off to buy a scarf to cover it (bought a pretty brooch too)
  • went to wrong entrance of the town hall
  • fell over rushing round to the right entrance - sat on the floor and cried - was picked up and looked after by the drunks who hang out in the park
  • arrived 20 minutes early for the interview - tear stained
  • interviewers really sorry - running about an hour behind.
  • candidate after me arrived - clearly knew everyone and chatting and had a staff pass - realised I wasn't going to get the job
  • had interview - one of the interviewers looked bored, yawned and looked out of the window when I was answering questions
