Hello all

Sorry to appear daft
Would very much appreciate opinions

Need to get from stansted to newham tomorrow

I arrive to the airport at 8
Bus is booked for 8.30 am
I have appointments at around 11am
Then get back to stansted for 10pm

Bus leaves around 6pm

Don't need tube
Just need to walk from Stratford to appointment

Am I mad to go ahead with this tomorrow !?

It's work with vulnerable families and I don't want to cancel
But I may be in for a sad shock ???

The stansted express is pretty good, I don’t think you’re mad for going ahead with it - I don’t know where I’m newham your appointment is but download Citymapper (or just use google maps) because there may well be a bus there so you don’t need to walk it.

luxxlisbon · 20/06/2022 17:43

Is your flight due at 8? You could easily struggle to get a o the bus stop by 8:30. It can take ages to get off the plane and through the airport to the bus stop.
You could always just get the next one though and you will probably be okay. The busy to Stratford takes about an hour and you could always get a cab right at the bus stop at Stratford if you’re a bit behind.

Queenie6655 · 20/06/2022 17:45

Just bearing in mind the train strike

Do you think I could be stuck on the bus for three hours plus?

I can make the bus from the flight I usually do that with no bother
It's just making my way to London for appointments with families and being stuck in traffic for most of the day?

Ideal scenario

Bus arrives around ten or 10.30
Walk to appointments

Get done around 5 get bus asap to get back to airport

Love standsted express but not sure if it will run?

I'd be worried about making the bus for 8.30am, depending on your flight arriving on time and how long it takes to get through the airport. If you make the 8.30am bus, the rest should be fine. If you don't make the 8.30am bus, it depends if you can get the next/later bus (or if it's full) and how bad the traffic is on the M11/A12. Traffic will probably be much worse than usual so you could be cutting it fine for 11am if you don't make the 8.30am bus.

Queenie6655 · 20/06/2022 17:53

Ah yes good point

Say I make the 9am bus?

2 hours to get to Stratford by bus from stansted?

Mad idea

Just don't want to cancel as it means further delays for the family then !!! Hmmmmm

No-one can answer that without a crystal ball. Yes, it's possible. Will it happen tomorrow? Don't know.

bellac11 · 20/06/2022 17:55

Stanstead to Stratford in 2 hours by road is possible but the roads will be busier tomorrow due to the train strikes so you cant guarantee it, only got to have some hold up and it would be difficult.

Just a higher chance it may happen I guess

Train and tube strike tomorrow so traffic will be manic I think.

This is from the stanstead express website:

21 and 25 June – the first train is 7:42 and the last train is 17:12. There will be two trains per hour.

Newham tomorrow ?
balalake · 20/06/2022 18:01

Use the Stansted Express. There may be other trains out of Liverpool Street when you arrive, albeit limited.

Queenie6655 · 20/06/2022 18:02

Thanks so much

Should I chance it?

My job is in London but we had to leave because Of an abusive ex husband
So now this is my life

Hate him now so much too

You can walk from Liverpool Street to leadenhall street and get the 25 bus down, again depends on traffic.
I’d suggest leaving as early as possible, then you can mooch about Westfield to kill time if needed, if you are actually early?

Queenie6655 · 20/06/2022 18:03

Oh yes great idea

Thanks

I would still recommend the bus over the train, you will need to change to get to Stratford and even if the stansted express is on the others might not be.
The bus is direct to Stratford and even with traffic I think would be your best bet.
I usually get into the gate closest to the exit and even then landing at 8 and being on a bus for half would involve running and could still be a big chance of missing it.

You might as well try, cancelling after working hours the night before is a bit last minute.

Traffic will be worse but it’s still unlikely to take 3hrs to Stratford imo.

There's also a tube strike tomorrow. You'll be better off on a slow bus than risking trains that may or may not run and that you'll need to connect to another train or tube (or bus).

Personally I'd postpone the trip. Doing it when there's a rail AND a tube strike doesn't give you much time to play with. Unless you can get an earlier flight (assume not).

Queenie6655 · 20/06/2022 18:05

Ah yes agree

No earlier flight 🤦🏼‍♀️

Great ideas all

What would you all do?

Have you tried getting the 25 when there's a tube strike?? I have. I wouldn't recommend it when you have a time constraint. OP would be better off getting a Boris bike but they'll probably all be taken. Of course Liverpool St to Stratford is walkable but OP doesn't have that kind of time if she only lands at 8am.

I would have flown down tonight and stayed in a cheap hotel, then enjoyed a relaxed walk and coffee in the morning before the 11am. Sorry, that's not very helpful.

Your only realistic chance is the bus from Stansted to Stratford. You might make it, you might not. On strike days, the roads in east London are more unpredictable than usual. It could go either way but by the time it's obvious to us locals, you'll already be on your flight.

I agree, I said I think traffic will be manic, but I think it would be quicker to get a train to Liv street if at all possible, rather than a bus from Standstead to Stratford which will be 10x worse than the 25.
Agree boris bike could be a good bet, but would be hard pressed to grab one tomorrow, they’ll be like gold dust I think

Queenie6655 · 20/06/2022 18:22

Ah I see guys
So maybe train?
With an hour or so to get by bus to Stratford?
Sorry to appear to be so dumb I just can't decide

Hate missing work
