To think the repair company need to pay for/sort this

DS sent his laptop to be mended ( new battery required) it was picked up by DPD. The computer repair company was very vague about when it would be returned ' perhaps by the end of next week' type messages.

We are now on holiday and DS had a text message to say DPD have delivered it with a picture of the box in the porch ( no prior emails/texts with the ability to move the date etc received) We asked the next door neighbours to check and they said it had gone. They are very helpful and reliable.

DPD say you can't start a claim without the booking details - but DS didn't book the delivery so doesn't have these. We don't know if it was sent signed for or not. There was certainly no agreement to leave an expensive item on the porch.

I think the repair company are responsible ( unless it was booked to be signed for and DPD didn't do that - which we have no way of knowing) so they need to sort this out

Has anyone else had similar issues/ know what the legal position is?

The repair company should be dealing with DPD on this. Presumably your DS hasn't set it up to automatically be left in the porch?

Thanks @SandyWedges that's what I suspected and definitely not - no agreement to have it left there.

Update - appears DPD left the parcel outside without any safe place authorisation. The driver is now ringing DS and saying that he has left parcels outside before and now DPD will make him pay for this lost parcel out of his wages.
I feel sorry for the driver but its not DS's fault - he didn't book the blasted delivery!
