Tradesman chasing for payment

CharlesIsQueensHorcrux · 19/06/2022 11:24

Hi - I had a tradesman in last week, finished Friday & invoiced Friday night with email and message. Since then has messaged another five times chasing me! By the way I wasn’t ignoring him I messaged back saying I was out but would deal. Is it me or is he unreasonable to chase me all weekend for an invoice issued on Friday night? I was happy with the work but not sure now I would use him again as I feel a bit ick like there’s a suggestion I wouldn’t pay or something. Aibu?

Well payment is normally due on receipt of invoice - unless other terms agreed. He's probably trying to make sure he'll actually get payment and you aren't going to stiff him.

Just pay him!

ComDummings · 19/06/2022 11:26

Pay him. Do you walk out of Tesco with shopping because you’re busy and will deal with paying later? Pay.

WhatALoadOfWankiness · 19/06/2022 11:27

Sounds a bit odd
Just pay him and try and forget about it
Oooh and get a receipt

Gemma2000 · 19/06/2022 11:27

Pay him the job is done and you are happy with the work.

Nothappyatwork · 19/06/2022 11:30

I had some work done on my house on Friday and he literally stood there whilst I paid him on the doorstep he wasn’t gonna leave without it. And I can’t say I blame him

NurseButtercup · 19/06/2022 11:30

YABU

I hope you paid him BEFORE you posted this!!

GrazingSheep · 19/06/2022 11:30

When are you planning to pay him?

Noname99 · 19/06/2022 11:30

Whilst it seems a little OTT, I’d try and not take it personally. He might just be broke? Materials and petrol cost absolute fortune at the moment and he has already paid for those up front. If you were happy with the work, he was punctual and kept to time frame and quoted costs, I’d hang on to him and just pay him. 🤷‍♀️

newbiename · 19/06/2022 11:30

Why haven't you paid him ? Confused takes less than a minute with online banking.

LoudingVoice · 19/06/2022 11:30

I think given he only sent the invoice on Friday getting the invoice paid by Monday is reasonable, if he wanted immediate payment that should’ve been discussed beforehand.

All the chasing is unnecessary, it’s the weekend ffs.

Sapphirejane · 19/06/2022 11:30

I personally pay tradesmen same day at the end of a job (unless it’s big construction work etc) but invoicing Friday and chasing 5 times over a weekend is a bit much. It’s reasonable to expect payment by Monday I would think. It would put me off using them again as well.

AyeUpMeDuck · 19/06/2022 11:30

Why wouldn't you have paid it Friday?

People.that do work, like being paid for it.
I don't think may people would happily let you pay when you could be arsed...

"Thanks for doing the MOT Mr Carguy, I'll pay you when I fancy.... What do you mean I can't take my car?..."

CheesusWept · 19/06/2022 11:31

So you messaged him on Friday saying you would deal with it, so when did you pay him?

Just pay him instead of bitching about him on here.

FlibbertyGiblets · 19/06/2022 11:31

Well have you paid him now?

NewIdeasToday · 19/06/2022 11:31

Why didn’t you pay him immediately?

You could have done a bank transfer in less time than typing out this Mumsnet entry.

AtrociousCircumstance · 19/06/2022 11:31

It does sound a bit OTT - but he must be desperate or have been stung before with delayed/non payment.

Just pay him.

lifeofaleo · 19/06/2022 11:32

Maybe he's been working hard to complete the job, as he is struggling to feed his family!
He's finished the job, I assume you're happy with the job?
Then just pay what is owed!
Why are you complaining for someone wanting to be paid for a finished job?

myuterusistryingtokillme · 19/06/2022 11:32

Yes you are being unreasonable. You should have paid him on Friday, no wonder he's chasing

Hoppinggreen · 19/06/2022 11:33

Our plumber was here on Thursday and I paid him online before he left
I am sure you were intending to pay but a lot of people don’t or pay very late and it can cripple a small business

Galvanisa · 19/06/2022 11:33

Erm no, payment should be sent on receipt of invoice.

No wonder he is chasing you. You are clearly in the wrong

i always pay trades in cash on the day.

Ifailed · 19/06/2022 11:34

I suspect he's chasing you because someone is chasing him.

Snuffy28 · 19/06/2022 11:34

I don't see why you didn't pay him on completion of the job. He might be, like a lot of people, short of money and needed it urgently.
He did the work, he shouldn't have to wait for payment.

Gizlotsmum · 19/06/2022 11:35

i don’t think payment on a Monday for an invoice issued on a Friday is unreasonable. My banking app is offline this weekend so couldn’t do a transfer if I wanted. So sending the chasing texts would also make me reconsider. Would they appreciate being chased for a quote in the same way?

Jalepenojello · 19/06/2022 11:36

I literally pay as they are walking out the door then immediately message to confirm receipt. Just pay them

pompomseverywhere · 19/06/2022 11:37

Just. Pay. Him.
