To be mortified my sex drive has fallen off a cliff at 47

Over the last year it’s literally disappeared. It’s actually making me incredibly sad, I miss the feeling of being turned on, wanting sex etc. I feel bad for DH and worry how this will effect us, even though he’s not putting any pressure on me.
47 feels too young, I feel spent and aged. Has anyone else been through this? Is there anything I can do or is it an inevitable part of getting old?

Are you on HRT OP? If not, then that's the answer. Mine had pretty much disappeared before I went on it at 45. It came back immediately!

Yes I have been for 7 months - 3 pumps of oestrogel and Utrogestan. I was hoping it would be the answer but it’s made absolutely no difference.

See if you can be prescribed testosterone?

It’s the testosterone that makes a difference in terms of sex drive - it should be part of most womens HRT alongside oestrogen and progesterone. Many women get it prescribed privately, I don’t know if you can get it on the NHS now but definitely try it.

Completely normal. We are governed my our hormones. You’ve only got to see how the older female mammals in troops become the matriarch once they reach an age where they’re no longer fertile to see how this works. They no longer want sex and will actively deny the male and instead help raise the children.

Having said all of that we have access to HRT and they don’t lol. I’m starting HRT very soon, just waiting for my prescription to come through. I’m starting on oestrogen patches and progesterone tablets and will then review the need for testosterone later. I’ll be fascinated to see if my desire for sex returns.

You need to be having regular reviews until they get your combination correct.

Thanks for the information, I’d not thought about testosterone. Definitely going to ask for a review of my HRT.
