uk.news.yahoo.com/men-fined-cat-calling-women-cars-landmark-initiative-bradford-132508441.html

Just a big thanks to the female plain clothes officers who did this, I have lived and worked in Bradford and have first hand experience on how truly dreadful it is to be a woman walking alone in that city. Also congratulations to the girls at Bradford uni who campaigned for this.

I am surprised the fine and arrest number was not higher, but this kind of harassment can be over really quickly, so follow up really difficult.

We (sadly) should have this in every town and city 👏👏

In my dreams some absolute dick out of the blue said “smile love” and tried to force a smile on one of the plain clothed police womens faces with his fingers (like what happened to me) and she flipped him over, knee’d him in the balls and cuffed him - but none of it probably went down like that.

I can imagine a few badges getting shown and the men suddenly having an oh shit moment though 👊

This absolutely should be a national thing! Although I think it’s probably hard to police. But hopefully it makes these vile men think twice when they feel the need to degrade women.

The first time this happened to me, I was 12 years old walking home from school (wearing uniform) and a van drove past, stopped, started beeping the horn and a guy screamed at me “Oi Oi get your rat out”! Disgusting. It sticks with you for a long time.

IncompleteSenten · 17/06/2022 19:40

Sadly, more likely they (and many of their family members) will be outraged and moaning that the police should be focusing on 'real' crimes and they are victims of women who can't take a joke 🙄

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 17/06/2022 19:58

Excellent. This is needed. Men can be vile.

The first time it happened to me I was also 12 and sadly it was the first time I saw a penis as a man flashed me on very busy route home from school.

I agree men will be men comments 🤮

after experiencing a LOT of unwanted attention on the street minding my own business, including 3 flashing incidents, men driving onto the pavement blocking me from leaving and asking for vile sexual behaviours before I could get past, almost daily catcalling just going into my local shops.

today a sweaty me 34, slightly over weight wearing skinny jeans, a large blouse and trainers was cat called twice walking back from dropping my son off at his friends house at 8:15am 😡😡

It’s disgusting isn’t it. So sad how “the norm” is that most females experience this shit before we even hit teenage years 😔

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 17/06/2022 21:08

It disgusts and horrifies me that this is still happening.

Like pp, I was catcalled whilst wearing school uniform. I used to get whistled at, beeped at, inappropriate comments, all sorts from a white van full of workmen every single day on my way to school from first starting secondary school (it wasn't always the same people or the same van either).

I could write a book thicker than the bible with all the times I've been harassed by boys/men from age 11 to now.

I saw a poster a while ago about harassment specifically on public transport and started thinking about the times when I've been harassed on the bus or train. It shocked me as within a few seconds I could recall at least 10 incidents off the top of my head, the more I think about it, there are many more. I'm only in my early 30s so it's not even as though I can quickly recall 10 incidents in 40 or 50 years. For public transport incidents, I'm talking about from high school age to now which isn't that long.

A massive well done to Bradford police, hopefully other forces will do something similar.

How so?

Perhaps it was on purpose - click bait 🫣

So sad, and nothing has changed. When it happened to me at 12 I had a MALE officer interview outside the heads office (because he was too important to lend a private space perhaps 😫)

So in the corridor outside the head teachers office, I was asked was his penis erect ☹️ Haunts me to this day when I look back and say ages 12- “I don’t know what an erect penis means”

My 13 year gets this regularly 🙄. She is tall and gorgeous - the attention she gets is incessant. It’s lucky handguns are banned in this country or I would be taking some of them out (joking not joking)

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 13/12/2022 10:14

That's my dream too, EndHarrassmentofwomen but I'm afraid I'd be much more violent It's beyond tiresome that these Neanderthals still roam the earth.

SnitterBug · 13/12/2022 21:59

I remember what it was like before cameras and the internet, before their disgusting behaviour could be recorded and shared . I remember being about 13 in school uniform and being told to get my knickers off by a man passing by slowly in a car who was old enough to be my dad . Pig . Vile pig .
