To create another “staged” room?

AllHailKingLouis · 17/06/2022 15:02

4 bedroomed house, only 2 adults living here. 3 spare bedrooms.

I’ve turned one into an art room and I use it quite a lot. I then turned one into a double guest bedroom which to be honest, is more a staged room rather than a used room. It may get used maybe 3 times a year.

now, what to do with the smallest bedroom? DH doesn’t want it. I do have a granddaughter but if she sleeps over she’ll want to sleep with me. So, do i “stage” it as a little girls bedroom? Put all her stuff in there even though she won’t use it? (She might in a few years).

I don’t want a junk room which is what it currently is. I can stage it for around £500 and it will serve no other purpose than to make me feel better. DH thinks I should just leave it as an unused room but AIbU to want to stage it? (Plus it would give mr somewhere to put all dgd’s stuff)

Why would it cost so much?

bed + mattress £300
chest of drawers £100
bits and pieces £100

Move? Why live in a house with more rooms than you need and then on top spend money on things you don’t need to put in the rooms you don’t use?

We will move at some point … hence my use of the word stage

How about downsizing so a family who needs all those spare bedrooms can use them

I'd have a dressing room me. But a future bedroom for bairn is a good call.

Plus anyone who “needs” a 4 bed house can find one quite easily in this area. It’s not like they’re rare

I think you should have a gift wrapping room as always envied Niles' on Frasier.

Why would it cost so much?

It's a mint problem to have. I got my own bedroom out of a similar dillema.

gamerchick · 17/06/2022 19:10

Quoted the wrong post. Soz.

Why should op move?

TabithaTittlemouse · 17/06/2022 19:13

Our gc have a room here. They don’t really use it yet.

bridgetreilly · 17/06/2022 19:15

I would have granddaughter sleeping there, not with you.

LoveLarry · 17/06/2022 19:15

I'd have a dressing room for me, maybe with a sofa bed for granddaughter

What's with the "staging" though? How dramatic

Hutchy16 · 17/06/2022 19:25

Playroom for your granddaughter, with a sofa bed. Then you have somewhere to sit together, and if she wants to sleep on her own she can

Why should op move?

Haha she shouldn’t, but I get the sentiment. It’s very very hard to find decent sized 4 bed homes where I am, they are mostly just new builds which I think are quite small.

Crocsandshocks · 17/06/2022 19:29

Rent your room out or downsize so a family can live there.

Crocsandshocks · 17/06/2022 19:33

I think this is a truly silly problem to have. You have more space than creativity! Do what you want with it!

AllHailKingLouis · 17/06/2022 19:34

There are many 4 bed houses in this area for sale. Anyone that could afford this house could afford any of the ones already up for sale!!!

We will move eventually, but not yet.

What's 'staging'? Why not just decorate it any way you want it.

Are you one of those people who 'curates' their underwear after they've come off the dryer?

Spohn · 17/06/2022 19:43

Do it if you want. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Léighméleabhair · 17/06/2022 19:44

We have 5 bedrooms and a teenager. We have 2 actual bedrooms, a guest bedroom, my sewing room and my husband’s study. Although my sewing stash has crept into the guest bedroom, by quite a lot. 😂

How often does your granddaughter visit? If you decorate the spare bedroom for your granddaughter, presumably she’ll want to use it in the not too distant future? They grow up very quickly.

House a Ukrainian refugee?

SingleMomIreland · 17/06/2022 19:50

First world problems! This is a massive reason as to why there is a housing crisis. People with too many rooms they don't use/need vs people with too few rooms and too many people to occupy them. All the beautiful green spaces being taken up to build boxy houses to fit families in, it's such a shame.
