To not know what to wear to this event?

I'm going with my partner this Friday to a charity event, golf during the day followed by a charity dinner and auction on the evening. The information given says the dinner dress code is smart/casual - what do I wear to this!!!! I've only been to a few similar events and I've just worn a nice dressy dress! It's forecast 28c aswell. Would this be unsuitable? Any tips on what to wear would be greatly appreciated, I won't know anyone other than my partner and am already nervous 😬. Thank you.

What’s the material of this dress? It looks quite light and beachy - is that correct? If so, it might be a little too casual. What else do you have?

Hunderland · 15/06/2022 21:06

Dress looks lovely and if you're in the SE of England it is forecast very hot indeed.

SaveAHorseRideAHighlander · 15/06/2022 21:09

It's like a silky type material, I am worried it might be a bit beach like. I've got these two options? Thank you for the replies.

Should I be thinking more like smart work type dresses?

Wear the first dress, it is lovely and entirely suitable for a summer's evening at the golf club.

Sciurus83 · 15/06/2022 21:12

First dress

FrazzleDazz · 15/06/2022 21:12

The first dress is lovely, you'll be glad it's lighter weight material on Friday too!

Findahouse21 · 15/06/2022 21:12

I vote for the first one, the second one is pretty but I don't think it's that summery. The second one suits both day and evening imo. Could take flats and heels to zing it up for the evening if you're unsure?

ShirleyPhallus · 15/06/2022 21:13

First dress is much more appropriate!

RedCarsGoFaster · 15/06/2022 21:13

I'd say that's probably a great option. I'd wear a different pair of shoes, maybe add some jewellery for the evening?

JanglyBeads · 15/06/2022 21:14

So are you/people staying anywhere - will there be some way of getting changed between the day's golf and the dinner later on?

Biscuitsandpizza · 15/06/2022 21:14

@SaveAHorseRideAHighlander the first dress looks perfect. You said dress code is smart/casual, which this looks like it is, and especially with the weather forecast! Have fun!

SaveAHorseRideAHighlander · 15/06/2022 21:17

Ahh thanks so much everyone, I feel the comfiest in the first one! So I'm not going to the golf, from what I understand the partners are invited to the evening do, which suits me fine as I know nothing about golf! I'm dropping him off in the morning and then chilling in the spa at the hotel for the day and treating myself to a nice lunch! He's got a few hours to get ready after the golf before pre dinner drinks.
Staying in hotel over night, but at a different hotel to the event.

I do think the 1st dress is lovely and appropriate.

But just wanted to add that the black and white looks stunning on you!!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 15/06/2022 21:30

I love the third one. But the first is also lovely and I think more suitable

Darbs76 · 15/06/2022 21:32

First dress is perfect

SleepingStandingUp · 15/06/2022 21:33

If you're just going to dinner, I'd go with the black and white one

Alarae · 15/06/2022 21:36

I think the first dress is lovely.

Side note- is the white/black combo a top and skirt or a dress? If it's a skirt, where did you get it? I love the chevrons!

LizzieSiddal · 15/06/2022 21:36

The first one is perfect. Have a lovely day!

SaveAHorseRideAHighlander · 15/06/2022 21:38

@Annfr thank you so much. I suffer with bad body dysmorphia which doesn't help me chose clothes to wear to stuff like this. My lovely friend has let me borrow pretty much her entire wardrobe to see what I want to wear Smile

It's actually a navy blue skirt and a white vest top but a nice vest top if that makes sense. It's my friends, I'll have a look when I go up and see where it's from.

I think the first dress looks perfect. Can I ask where it is from please?

I have this skirt in a few colours and one was from AX Paris and the other from new look, both nearly 10 years ago

rainyskylight · 15/06/2022 22:02

First dress, no question about it! It’s spot on.
