Have been asked to run the school disco ages 4-7.. but no idea what music will appeal?! They can't afford a professional DJ. My son has so far come up with "everything is awesome (Lego movie)' and various other sound tracks. All I can think of from my school discos is black lace and Kylie! It's got to be bearable for the adults too. Please help me! 😬😬😬

My 5 year old likes dance monkey.

Heyisforhorses · 15/06/2022 16:06

George Ezra, Ed Sheeran in fairness kids know more chart than i would between creche, car and home. I don't have radio on in my car or home, just my own styff, but some of the lyrics my kids sing im expecting Geordie slut drops to accompany and it's just from hearing their little pals singing chart stuff.

Agree with George Ezra, especially Paradise & Shotgun

Hedonism · 15/06/2022 16:17

Just go onto Deezer or Spotify and search playlists for '6th birthday party' (or similar).

minipie · 15/06/2022 16:17

Sing and Sing 2 soundtracks
Trolls movie soundtracks
Some Disney eg the upbeat songs from Encanto, Moana
Various Taylor Swift and Katy Perry
Shut up and dance with me

if you have Spotify try putting in “kids party”

Justcallmebebes · 15/06/2022 16:20

My 6 year old granddaughter has just discovered Katy Perry. Unfortunately, she makes my ears bleed.

Dance Monkey - also a big favourite and George Ezra

motogirl · 15/06/2022 16:23

Look at Spotify "clean and upbeat kids playlist". Seems to fit the bill.

My kids at that age loved the Beatles, Queen, oasis, pulp, abba, ... aka whatever I listened to

Nerdymummy · 15/06/2022 16:31

Encanto soundtrack is a big hit in our house especially we don't talk about Bruno. I would agree with George ezra. My children love taylor swift and Katy Perry especially roar. We often listen to sing and sing 2 sound track in the car

MarianosOnHisWay · 15/06/2022 16:31

George Ezra - Shotgun
Walk the moon- shut up and dance
Panic at the Disco - High Hopes
We don’t talk about Bruno from Encanto
Pharrell Williams - Happy
I am a gummy bear
Dance Monkey
Imagine Dragons- Thunder
Marshmellow- Happier
Justin Timberlake - Can’t stop the feeling
Camilla Cabelo- Havana
Taylor Swift- Shake It off
Charli XC - Boom Clap
Little Mix- Black Magic
Party Rock Anthem

I’m a primary school teacher and these are some of the songs the kids love and dance to

Purplefoxes · 15/06/2022 16:47

Wow some ace ideas so far, thanks all for responding so quickly. I am creating a Spotify list as we speak.

I did try searching on there but was so much choice that I was completely flummoxed! So I figured I would ask the experts 😁 Any tips for survival from anyone that has also run/supervised one of these also appreciated 🫣

Mine love Kidz Bop, they rip off all the chart songs basically, maybe copy their playlists but use the original versions? Or just their albums if your worried about censoring the songs.

bookworm14 · 15/06/2022 16:56

My DD age 6 likes:

Shake it Off
Dance Monkey
Any S Club 7 or Spice Girls
Old Town Road
That Justin Timberlake song from Trolls
Call Me Maybe
Anything from Sing or Sing 2
Encanto soundtrack
Sound of the Underground (Girls Aloud)

minipie · 15/06/2022 16:56

I would have some streamers or similar lying around for kids to play with who aren’t so into dancing. Maybe a few hats or props to dress up with

I would say balloons, but if they keep popping it can make some kids upset (been there!)

Ideally some games every now and then like musical statues, dance off, dance like a mum/dad etc

Basically stuff to keep them engaged, otherwise some of them will get bored of dancing and run riot (maybe just my kids school…!)

Ask everyone to bring their own water bottle, otherwise you’ll have loads of kids asking for a drink and you’ll have to hand out cups which will then spill… Unless there are water fountains easily available

Have someone check the loos every so often… keep watch by the exits… make sure all kids are signed in and out!

Good luck!

Ormally · 15/06/2022 16:57

Sam Ryder - Spaceman
Shakira - Time for Africa (Waka Waka)

s0fi · 15/06/2022 17:02

weezer

womaninatightspot · 15/06/2022 17:05

Roar by Katy Perry

LookItsMeAgain · 15/06/2022 17:17

The Cha-Cha Slide is also another great one for that age group.
The Macarena
Whigfield - Saturday Night

They are ones that are coming to mind without putting any thought into it.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 15/06/2022 18:36

My 8yo loves Taylor Swift, Little Mix and Katy Perry.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 15/06/2022 18:37

Oooh, and Dynamite by BTS and Justin Timberlake Can't Stop The Feeling.

Threetulips · 15/06/2022 18:38

Baby shark

GingerTum · 15/06/2022 18:50

One of the mums is organising the music for DDs end of year disco and has sent out a note through school to ask everyone to email her with the two songs they would most like to hear. Maybe worth a try if you're stuck for ideas...
Instant Playlist and you can't be held responsible for any cheesy ones 😄

TheFabledSnake · 15/06/2022 19:10

My 6 year old listens to Kids Bop, which drives me mad but she enjoys it. She also likes my music and has developed an interest in Gorillaz lately, although that's probably not very helpful 😂

DoctorMartin · 15/06/2022 20:00

Anything with actions like cha cha slide, Macarena.

Don't be afraid to put the really popular ones on again at the end of the night.
