So many deleted threads

Quincythequince · 14/06/2022 21:50

I think that the number of threads being deleted is becoming ridiculous quite frankly.

I have, in the last ten minutes, gone back to look at three threads I had previously looked at.
Gone.

Nothing particularly contentious about any of the subjects either.

I am using MN less and less because of similar over the last few months because you click back on a perfectly reasonable chat and poof…no longer there with some asinine reason given for its deletion.

AIBU for thinking that MNHQ are beginning to stifle the topics and responses and are becoming a bit heavy handed?

I know others will disagree as they like to actually 'see' what's gone, but I find it absolutely enraging to click on a thread title, only to find the 'thread deleted' message. I would much rather the whole thing were deleted or at least hide the title so I'm not wasting my time clicking on non-existent threads.

I would rather goady threads and trolls were deleted TBH.

I agree. But so many are just OP having a strop when it hadn't gone their way.

Furrybutts · 14/06/2022 22:39

Earlier today, someone started a thread asking a question about something that had happened on one of the soaps.
The thread got deleted immediately before anyone could reply.

That was puzzling.Confused

FilterWash · 14/06/2022 22:45

And yet the "oh no my underage daughter wears skimpy underwear around the house what does your underage daughter wear" thread is still there. 🙄

Womencanlift · 14/06/2022 22:48

Dubiousdebbie · 14/06/2022 22:02

Is anyone even getting a deletion message these days? I look back at threads and they’ve gone

I was going to say the same thing. Since the new site was launched they just disappear. Thought I was going mad for a while until I worked out what was going on

So frustrating

So was the talking in the cinema one a troll or did she just not like what was being said?

Womencanlift · 14/06/2022 22:51

Ah I have just found the history thing a pp mentioned so see the cinema one was a troll 🙄

rainbowmilk · 14/06/2022 22:56

I would’ve been interested in the thread about the multiple children. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Threebutterflies · 14/06/2022 23:08

Sallyanne45 · 14/06/2022 22:11

It honestly wasn't! I genuinely wanted to know if others felt like i did and if not, why?

Who gets to decide what is shit or not??

If you don't like it, don't engage!

Hiw many tax payer funded children do YOU have 😄

Oooo sounds like it was an interesting thread ! Wish they hadn’t deleted it 😮

Quincythequince · 14/06/2022 23:08

The thing is, I go through fits and spurts of looking on here, am not a consistent daily user by any means.

But I have been using it way more recently and this time round it’s <click on a thread> poof <click on another one> poof …repeat, repeat, repeat.

There’s nothing even that bad either tbh. Why the constant need for sanitisation?

Last one I was on 1 person queried a reverse to which I replied as cldnt see how it cld be (on a well established thread) & next thing it was deleted saying bcos it was outing. I took it to mean the poster felt they were rumbled. Yeay or nay?

User48751490 · 14/06/2022 21:52

I am getting miffed as well. Went to check on one thread and POOF it's gone!

Yup. This happened to me three times today. Very annoying

LongLiveLiz · 15/06/2022 06:25

I requested a post that I put up under a different user name was deleted because despite accepting that I was being unreasonable after a couple of pages of comments and posting accordingly (repeatedly) the personal insults became too much. I always thought I had quite a thick skin but the wrath of MN is something else.

Its down to MNHQ. It’s not like you can have a strop and delete your own thread is it?

EarringsandLipstick · 15/06/2022 06:52

It’s not like you can have a strop and delete your own thread is it?

That's the point tho.

OPs ask for deletion & where before MN were more reluctant to do it just because they are asked, they are now doing it more frequently - it seems. That coupled with the known issue of deleted threads disappearing with no deletion messages is adding to posters' frustration.

I do take the point of PP regarding the personalised attacks which I do think have got worse.

Sparklingbrook · 15/06/2022 07:57

I haven't noticed that it's more frequent TBH. I may be on the wrong threads/sections of the site. But I just accept that it's their site and they can delete whatever threads they see fit. I wouldn't want to be the one making the decisions either though, I imagine they get loads of reports and there's not time to um and ah over it.

I don't think it's that complicated or with much need to um or ah, really.

EarringsandLipstick · 15/06/2022 08:12

Of course it's MN's site.

But relies on users & their posts to exist

libbyamelia · 15/06/2022 08:18

I agree. I put up a thread the other night asking of anyone had ever met Kate or Meghan. There was nothing contentious in it at all, but it was deleted for 'not being in the spirit of Mumsnet' or some such twaddle.

I've started going on Tattle Life recently.

MayDaze · 15/06/2022 08:22

Since the upgrade they somehow lost their ability to track PBPs and several who weren't Trolls but fell foul of Talk guidelines have reregistered.

I imagine the more persistent Trolls and PBPs have had a field day with this oversight and MNHQ are perhaps now able to flag them again so are now going around the site "cleaning up".

Pure speculation on my part, but could explain the spurt of deletions recently.

Nothing wrong with your thread but many commented on Kate's appearance and then speculation about whether she has an eating disorder. It became quite unpleasant. I do think that it would have been better to lock the thread rather than delete though.

josil · 15/06/2022 08:27

OP I could agree more. It is absolutely ridiculous - sad because I also feel it is what the world is becoming, too frightened to have discussions about ANYTHING.

It is an issue, if this was a forum for children I'd understand but we are all adults here so why can't we have conversations as long as they aren't Anis I've like you say or inciting hatred, I have no idea what the issue is.

User48751490 · 15/06/2022 10:58

It's getting very heavily vetted IMO.

loads of people on here think if you’re thin, you MUST have an ED because it’s not possible to be that slim.

Poor old VB gets that a lot - a thread ran earlier this year where she was getting battered left, right and Centre and Mumsnet did nothing.

So if it’s that, they need more consistency.

Of course but for all the moaning about the site everyone still seems to be here. 😂

That thread went downhill fast (I don't mean from your OP, but the subsequent posts were awful)
