To want to know which product I'm forking out for

Had someone to quote for an online bathroom fan. Quote came in at £500ish for all work. Given that dd sleeps in an adjoining room but it needing to be effective at removing moisture, I wanted a quiet but effective one. I asked the company which model and make they intended using. They refused to tell me as 'it's nit our policy to give those details put'. AIBU in wanting to know which product they're using and not putting blind faith in a company I've had no dealings with. Is withholding model types a typical practice?

Don't use them.
Option A: They think you want to purchase the product yourself and get someone else to install it at a cheaper rate to them. This means they're overcharging you.
Option B: They don't have a consistent one that they use, it's whichever is cheap/convenient/on-sale on the day. This is more likely to result in a fault and be a pain in the arse.
Option C: They have a genuine reason for not disclosing this to you but, regardless, you clearly don't trust them and can't guarantee you'll get what (a quiet yet effective fan) you want at the end of paying £500. Why use them?

Ask them to split costs between equipment and installation. Bet they refuse that as well.

Only reason they won't tell you is because they are over-charging for the device. If they had the excuse they aren't sure what one they would provide I wouldn't go near them. You need to know what you are buying, too late after.

In my business we need to provide exact details of equipment we are supplying, even need to issue Tech Subs that show the client every single detail. No reason not to unless something is being hidden from you.

Look elsewhere.
