I’ve got something stuck in my ear. How do I get it out?

Got a conch piercing about six weeks ago. When I sat up this morning I felt a kind of “pop” in my ear, but thought I just needed a yawn.

Its become apparent the tiny ball bearing holding the piercing in has come lose and gone into my ear. It feels like my ear is full of water.

Where do I go to get it removed? It’s not an A&E job, is it? Would the Gp do it?

Hold your nose and blow out of it?

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 14/06/2022 08:09

I'd ring doctors. If you have a nurse practitioner there they will get it out.
Good luck!

A&E or minor injuries job. Maybe phone surgery first to see if nurses can deal with it.

I work in an urgent care centre, fishing things out of ears is my favourite thing to do

Hearditonapodcast · 14/06/2022 08:11

I'd call your GP surgery to check. Some are happy to attempt removal, some won't. If its a hard piece of metal, irrigation will probably dislodge it, so it should be fairly straightforward.

Pour oil into your ear (tilt head one way - helps if you have a pipette) and then tilt head other way and pull down ear lobe, should come out.

Pollydonia · 14/06/2022 08:17

Yes call your gp surgery first, if they cant deal with it they will signpost you on to minor injuries.

Thanks everyone! This is why I love Mumsnet!

Walk in centre?

greenacrylicpaint · 14/06/2022 08:54

some opticians have an ear suction service

I had this 2 years ago. Phoned my GP surgery and they wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. Said I had to go to A&E.

Went to A&E and I was in and out within half an hour.
