To ask your phone usage?

I use my phone for everything- tv, camera, messaging/talking , Google, social media, listening to music, podcasts. But not for work.

My average use is about 3.5 - 4 hours a day which seems a lot but I'm not always physically on it. Say in the car I'll link it to the radio while driving. What's your usage?

Honestly? I daren't check. Definitely too much!

DustyMaiden · 14/06/2022 09:04

6 hrs. Addicted to Woodoku and permanent audio book.

bobby81 · 14/06/2022 09:07

I try to keep it less than 3 hours a day. Don’t have an iPad or pc though so use my phone for everything.

frydae · 14/06/2022 09:08

I use mine a lot. I have no problem with it though. I would rather read mumsnet than a book. People get hung up on 'what did we do without phones' and the truth is I didn't read books then either. I probably stared into space a lot. I have never used the English language more than I do nowadays, for me it's a huge positive that offers me a way to communicate which is so very different for me to real life.

etulosba · 14/06/2022 09:09

Mine was up 50% last week to 12 minutes a day.

Ponoka7 · 14/06/2022 09:10

It's been two hours so far today. But I wake up early and read on my phone, so not to disturb my DD. Some days it's eight hours, others around four. I do everything on my phone, so I'm not looking to cut down. I don't want to have to physically carry books etc around or buy newspapers.

littlepeas · 14/06/2022 09:19

Just checked and mine is just under 2 hours at the moment - this is after taking a lot of steps to reduce my usage (limiting screen time on some apps/websites, but also switching off all notifications and spending time unsubscribing from email mailing lists, etc). Main culprit is a sudoku app!

The pick ups count is interesting though - I average 50 times per day! I definitely want that to be lower.

I hate phones and wish they would go away. My dc's school has a long drive and as I was driving back down it after dropping off I could see car after car with a parent at the wheel and a kid in the passenger seat glued to their phone. All kids at bus stops looking at their phones and kids walking to school looking at their phones - standing/walking next to friends who are also staring at their phones! It's like a different version of the matrix - plugged in, controlled by machines.

Bopping298 · 14/06/2022 09:33

I hate phones too and I'm annoyed that since getting a fancy new phone my usage has shot up. I'm currently at under two hours - I fluctuate between 1.5 hours and 1 hour 50 mins. I use my phone to text, take pictures, read the news, read my work emails

LimesandClementines · 14/06/2022 09:39

Mine is just under 3.5 hours average for the last week but that's down 56% which makes sense as I am staying at DP's this week and I definitely use it less when I'm here.

Most of that is Mumsnet and TikTok!

I don't know but probably far too bloody much 👀

pumpkinpie01 · 14/06/2022 09:41

Well just looked and mine is 6 hours a day , but I lot of that is whilst I'm at work , it shouldn't be but I get bored, mumsnet /holiday searching much more interesting 😀

namechangeanonymous · 14/06/2022 09:43

Mine varies but I did 7 hours 24 minute's yesterday, I've set myself a phone goal of 3 hours now. What a waste!

Kennykenkencat · 14/06/2022 09:51

Depends what work I am doing as a lot of my business is on my phone. I do a lot of research and because I have adhd I find myself jumping from site to site.
I use it’s a sat Nav , also business related so I can be on it 11 hours of the day.

What did I do before mobile phones?

Struggle

JamesMartinsWaistcoat · 14/06/2022 09:54

Mine is shameful at the minute but in my defence, I'm on it during night and day feeds and when DS is napping and I should be more productive.

I'm addicted and hate myself for it.

MsOllie · 14/06/2022 09:54

About 12hrs but it's used all day at work, plus TV, music, fitness app streaming to TV...

10HailMarys · 14/06/2022 10:38

About six hours a day I think. But I use it for pretty much everything - it's my clock, it's how I communicate with friends and family, pick up work emails, take photos, listen to music and podcasts, listen to audiobooks, read a newspaper, play word games, follow the football scores, do most of my shopping and sometimes read books if I don't have a paperback or my Kindle to hand.

fontime · 14/06/2022 14:44

I also think it includes the time you put it down and don't lock it that adds extra time!!

If I’m at home it regularly gets to 12/15 hours. That’s googling random stuff, Reddit, radio, Spotify, so I’m not always looking at my phone.

Dotjones · 14/06/2022 14:54

Probably less than half an hour per day on my phone, but then there's the iPad/laptop/tv!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 14/06/2022 14:55

I think it compares to the equivalent time used of the items I no longer use, because the phone replaces it. One item use rather than 6 items used.
so, no longer own a tv as I watch it through my phone. I don’t write a letter, I use email. Don’t own a separate camera - use the camera within the phone. Don’t use a record player - use the music app. Read the news online rather than going and buying a newspaper. Etc etc So same things done but in a different method iyswim. Although I do use a kindle instead of a book as phone screen is just too small.

crosbystillsandmash · 14/06/2022 14:57

I turned my mobile usage off, I was tired of feeling judged by my own bloody phone 😂

fontime · 14/06/2022 15:47

I listen to books for several hours a day. Just looked, around 8 hours a day in total.
