8 year old had grey hair

I just noticed that my 8 year old son has a few strands of grey hair. Anyone else child have this so young? Neither me or DH has a single grey hair and we are in our 40s.

Looked on Google and it says it can be a vitamin deficiency so not sure if I should take him to the GP or if that would be an over reaction.

you’ve reminded me, my DS had a few in primary school. I was really shocked as I never had any at the time.
they obviously dropped out, as hairs do, & I do remember running my hands through his hair occasionally looking for them but they never grew back. He’s now older teen & no sign of them.

I do think GP visit would be a bit soon, maybe buy a good multivitamin if you are concerned & assess his diet? Is he veggie/vegan?

I know an eight year old child who had a grey streak, I think just a natural patch where there was no melanin, as she’d always had it.

I had a few strands from when I was a baby and it just increased to a full stripe in late teens.

My middle child has a few and he's 8.
He has a liver transplant and has all his vitamin levels taken and isn't deficient.

DD has had a few story grey hairs since a toddler, she’s 20 now and they haven’t increased in number.

Stray not story

noenergy · 13/06/2022 21:07

He takes a multivitamin everyday so shouldn't be deficient in anything.
I was just shocked to see it. I thought I was seeing things.

My second eldest daughter has very dark brown hair and has had white streaks since she was born, it’s just hair with no pigment in it. It actually looks really striking now she’s in her 20s

My eldest daughter had a few when she was about 5. She’s 27 now and doesn’t have any, although her father’s family all went grey then white very early (in their 30’s)

TheWayoftheLeaf · 13/06/2022 21:13

I think it just happens sometimes. I've had a few white/ grey eyelashes on one eye since I was little

EvergreenForest · 13/06/2022 21:15

Could be a scar underneath? I had (and still have) a massive grey/white streak about my ear where I had a big patch of chicken pox and picked at them which I was little.

I'm not sure what the medical term is but the scar tissue affected the colour and it has been that colour ever since. Annoyingly hair dude also doesn't touch it

Ugh! Autocorrect hair dye not hair dude!!
