Not tidying kitchen

DH made dinner for DCs and himself. I went out with friends. Came home about 10. The kitchen looked like a crime scene. I poured myself a class of wine and left it. I would normally just clean it up....

AIBU not tidying it up?

Usually if one cooks, the other washes up.

Imo who cooks cleans up.
Or the cook makes a mountain of pots.

Beamur · 13/06/2022 10:12

I'd leave it too.

Is he normally this rigid in his thinking?!

Is he thinking, well I cooked so she can wash up? Oh dear.

I hope you ask him about it this morning.

This only works if you are either both messy or both tidy cooks. My mother taught me to cook with a heavy emphasis on clearing up as you go along.

DH ... doesn't.

Usually I clean up as he cooks but in this situation I would just leave it all. He will get around to it but I hate to see the mess so have to make an effort to not tidy.

You shouldn't be asking this question... Of course it's up to him to clean it. God I hate messy kitchen left like this overnight.

Vsirbdo · 13/06/2022 13:47

Unless he cooked for you then that rule doenst really stand in our house

BodenCardiganNot · 13/06/2022 13:49

Why do you have to ask are you unreasonable not to tidy up the mess made by another person? Do you not realise that you are not in the least bit unreasonable?

10HailMarys · 13/06/2022 13:52

If you were out when he cooked the meal, he should have cleaned up after himself.

Even if you have a 'one person cooks, one person tidies up' rule, that only applies when both of you are there and eating the meal, surely?!

Generally I cook and DP cleans up whatever hasn't been cleaned up while I was going along, but if I cooked for myself when we wasn't there I would obviously tidy up for myself, and I've never come home to find that he's left stuff for me to clear up from a meal he cooked when I was away!

Get the rubber gloves out and get that kitchen tidy.

Stay off the wine.

Justcallmebebes · 13/06/2022 13:57

If you were out when he cooked and didn't eat the food, it doesn't count.

It also doesn't count if one cooks and cleans as they go along so at the end there's barely any pots to wash, just the plates and cutlery you've eaten from whilst the other uses countless pots and pans and washes nothing as they go - can't stand this
