Travelling with Baby formula in…

Hey hey, so DS is 2months and we are going up to the beach an 1.5hrs away by train and will probably be out for 12hrs. I normally breastfeed and use formula. However, I’m planning to drink so breast is not an option.

Can I make his formula before I leave and pop into a flask and pour into his bottle when he wants a feed?

Do I just put hot water into flask and sterilised water in a another and make a bottle then and there?

Should I just buy the ready made formula cartons and the TT food/bottle warmer?

Also, how would I go about washing his bottles when out? He has 3 but will probs need 5 and I really don’t want to spend more money buying bottles that he really doesn’t need.

I can’t remember what I did with DD 4years ago 😂

I’m sorry but I don’t know about formula, but just to say you can still feed if you’ve been drinking. I understand you may not want to but it doesn’t need to be off the table and may be a lot less faff.

ForestFae · 12/06/2022 18:51

I’d use ready made for a day out tbh. I formula fed mine because I had a crap supply, and ready made is easy for travelling - unfortunately we quickly found out mine had allergies so couldn’t use it (they don’t make neocate ready made) and I was gutted!

Honaloulou · 12/06/2022 18:52

Second PP that drinking shouldn’t stop you BFing - assuming you’re sober enough to look after a baby, the amount in you milk is almost non existent.

EvonneGoolagong · 12/06/2022 18:56

Use ready made and i. warm weather it might not even need warming up.

Years ago I used to take one of the ready made bottles and shove it in my pocket to warm it up a bit. DS never seemed to care that it wasn’t the ‘perfect’ temperature.

Jojobees · 12/06/2022 19:00

The bottle warmer needs power, so not sure how that would work on the beach?
you can buy single use disposable bottles, and give him room temperature ready made milk.

Ponderingwindow · 12/06/2022 19:01

the amount of alcohol in your breastmilk is the same amount as in your blood. It’s absolutely trivial unless you are getting smashed.

but if you want to use formula, a beach day is the kind of outing ready made is perfect for.

Lilbunnyfufu · 12/06/2022 19:07

I use ready made formula on days out DS will drink it without it being warmed up.

doadeer · 12/06/2022 19:09

Don't know about the formula but you can drink and breastfeed fine. I assume you're not getting hammered with a 2 month old and your tolerance will be low post partum - a few drinks is fine!

parietal · 12/06/2022 19:12

either BF or use a carton of ready-made formula. you really don't want to be faffing about with hot water on a beach & train holiday.

abblie · 12/06/2022 19:12

You can buy premade formulas in asda and tescos etc etc that are so handy for travelling

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/06/2022 19:14

If you're sober enough to hold a 2 month old, you're sober enough to feed them. And if you're not sober enough to hold a 2 month old, someone really does need to be in charge, not you.

Tothepoint99 · 12/06/2022 19:14

If you're out for 12 hours and have 3 bottles you should be okay with your second suggestion and then store with an ice pack. This is assuming 4 hours between feeds.

Or buy just one more bottle and 3 hours between feeds?

Oysterbabe · 12/06/2022 19:15

Just breastfeed, it's fine.

ShirleyPhallus · 12/06/2022 19:40

Yep another voice to say to drink and breastfeed, it’s very safe

StarlingsInTheRoof · 12/06/2022 19:45

You can get screw on teats for the ready made formula bottles if you don't want to buy whole new bottles. We had one in an egg shaped protector so you can sterilise before you go out and it stays clean.

NutellaCrumpet1 · 12/06/2022 21:10

You can just drink and bf.
