I am so happy I feel like I might explode and I need to share it or I might start alienating loved ones and locals with my smugness.

We've taken our toddler and baby on holiday to the sea, last minute decision. Long drive broken up with a rainy picnic and some trainspotting, both kids remarkably nonscreamy in the car, both napped. Excellent trip to the beach, well behaved kids at the bar, fab dinner all together, bit of a hairy bedtime but hey, toddler in a new place. Nice bottle of wine with DH while snuggling the baby, and actually managed to put her down for the 10 minutes it took to have a hilarious sofa quickie that will probably go down in the personal log of Best Sex Ever. Then a decent ish night of sleep from the baby, who proceeded to sleep in and allow DH and I a good hour and a half to have breakfast with the toddler in front of Countryfile, lots of cuddles and chat and quality time.

It has genuinely been an almost spotless experience so far, and not at all what I was expecting from a holiday with 2 under 3. I was anticipating chaos and stress and instead I feel relaxed and happy and pretty much the cat that got the cream.

Anyone else having a practically perfect weekend and fancy sharing the smugness?

Sounds lovely op cherish these moments it will make wonderful memories. I'm drinking tea and relaxing on the sofa, the sun is shining and I have the day to myself to do as I wish so I'm happy.

Sunny here. Up at 6 with DH, he's gone to work and I've just taken a long walk with doggo through local streets while still quiet and still in North London. Parakeets screeching overhead and amazing views. Back now. Dog asleep and I'm about to climb up onto the scaffolding to start work. Long uninterrupted day ahead. New audio books downloaded and ready to go. Bliss.

I’m having a lovely morning too! We had a unplanned child free weekend so jumped in the camper van up to the Lake District, did a lovely 16 miler yesterday, dinner in a pub and shared a bottle of red when we got back. I’ve had a a lazy lie in and just sitting in the sunshine with a coffee and the dog while DP makes me a bacon and egg sandwich! Off to Windermere later

Shopboughtmeatballs · 12/06/2022 09:24

@Momicrone stripping the paint off the front of my house. Got quotes in for sandblasting and repointing but way more than we could justify so thought I'd have a go myself. V satisfying. Here's a before and after of top left corner. 😊 Tbh, what I'm most proud of is having to overcome my fear of heights. Spent the first week literally crawling along the boards up there.

Sounds lovely op. I always find very relaxed, easy going parents make for easy going children. You set the mood and tone. My ds is so chilled and easy going, we have doing so many holidays and he is just a dream to take anywhere. Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

Fairislefandango · 12/06/2022 09:29

Awww - that sounds lovely, OP! Wondering about the grumpy 29% who said YABU Shock but so far it's only 29% of 7 people I suppose!

I'm having a chilled morning. Went on a rare evening out last night with dh and chatted to some really nice people. Bright and clear-headed this morning as I was designated driver. Woke up early to sunshine, did a bit of knitting. Off for a lovely walk this afternoon.

Momicrone · 12/06/2022 09:31

Shopboughtmeatballs, amazing! Are you going to repoint it yourself too?

BurningGubbins · 12/06/2022 09:31

This is a lovely thread. I've had a lie in because we were out late at a friend's house drinking wine in the evening sunshine, and have a day of pottering ahead.

@Shopboughtmeatballs that looks amazing. How do you get the paint off the bricks? We need to do that but I fear it will reveal that the bricks are in a bad state.

sunscreenandsaltwater · 12/06/2022 09:43

I'm so (not patronisingly!!) happy for
You, OP.

I went on a very, very rare really good night out last night, was awake at 6 with my 3 year old for cuddles, my husband took him for breakfast at 6.30 and I went back to sleep until 9.

Had a tea and a bacon roll waiting for me when I got up, and am now about to go for a long bath.

Pub roast booked for later. Bliss!!!

@BurningGubbins @Momicrone (sorry, massive name chamge fail)
Thank you.
I've been using 'Peelaway 7' and 'Solvistrip' BUT if u can possibly afford to get someone in to do it for you, do so. It's only economically worthwhile for me to do it as am 110 and not working anymore so have masses of time.
Will repoint as necessary but not do the whole thing.
