To not understand why so many posts in aibu not aibu questions

Moithered · 11/06/2022 11:03

For example, asking for prayers/positive vibes, for traffic, or just plain old chat topics.
There are forums for other such topics. The aibu used to be interesting and full of varying opinions (mine included!); and yes, largely it remains so, but noticed over recent months, other irrelevant topics (irrelevant to aibu, not to OP obviously)

Traffic, innit

Traffic, innit

I came on to post exactly the same thing, using the same two words. Grin

Lockheart · 11/06/2022 11:08

Because they either don't understand how the forums work or they want the traffic.

HRTQueen · 11/06/2022 11:08

Kept me awake last night thinking about this issue

how can it be solved reasonably and fairly

MN employ an AIBU task force ?

HRTQueen · 11/06/2022 11:09

Two strikes and you are out sort of thing … or maybe three to be kind

Poptart4 · 11/06/2022 11:12

I've put posts on other forums and gotten a handful of replies.

When you put posts on AIBU you could get a couple of hundred replies.

So obviously people do it for traffic

Stompythedinosaur · 11/06/2022 11:12

The most irritating are non-questions that have been formated as questions.

If you want to say "I think people shouldn't be able to post in aibu unless they actually have an aibu" then say that, rather than pretend you are asking a question.

Did my q irritate you?

It's really not difficult to understand. Just ignore those threads and people will get the message.

It annoys me more when people ask 'what is your AIBU?' on threads that clearly belong on AIBU but haven't been worded as an AIBU.

BattenburgDonkey · 11/06/2022 11:15

To be fair you could have put this in site stuff, even though you’ve phrased it like there’s an AIBU. It’s traffic though isn’t it.

LoveLarry · 11/06/2022 11:15

Irritating. I see a few on there but other posters don't seem to mind, despite there being no actual AIBU

There is one poster Lockhart who used to fight the good fight but I haven't seen her much lately. **

SoupDragon · 11/06/2022 11:20

You've just done exactly the same thing.

No it isn't traffic. I was asking if it was just me being unreasonable in thinking that it is unreasonable to post here on a non-aibu topic, or if others felt the same
So please explain why this should be elsewhere

I didn’t say it should, I said it could have, which it could as it related to why posters are behaving in a certain way on this site rather than utilising the topics. YANBU, but personally I don’t care about stuff being posted in AIBU for traffic as a general rule. I also didn’t mean that you posted here for traffic, that was answer to your question of not understanding why do people do it.

Moosake · 11/06/2022 11:34

Nonsense. You've just deliberately phrased a question that isn't "AIBU" to pretend that it is.

The actual question is "why do people post questions in AIBU when they are not really asking whether they are being unreasonable?". You quite clearly don't actually want to know if you are being unreasonable, you want to know why people are doing it.

yellowsmileyface · 11/06/2022 11:39

The thing that mildly annoys me is when people include the poll in threads that don't need it, because it isn't a straightforward AIBU/AINBU thread.

And then you get threads where the poll would actually be really useful and they don't bother including it!

She's up there ^^

Moosake · 11/06/2022 11:43

To not understand why so many posts in aibu not aibu questions no you are not unreasonable to not understand.

BlackAndPinkNose · 11/06/2022 11:51

Yeah it is traffic, or instant gratification.

It becomes a vicious circle - people post a question about their dog in the Doghouse, it doesn't get many responses so they come here with an "AIBU to ask how to clean my dog's ears" so they don't bother going back to the proper board so the Doghouse doesn't get much traffic. Then everybody else thinks that the only way to post is to do the same.

AIBU used to be full of interesting posts but is hard to find them amongst the non-AIBUs.

worraliberty · 11/06/2022 12:14

It's not just in recent months, it's never been any different really.

I love it when people try to shoe-horn something into an AIBU question. "AIBU to have a sore throat?" or similar.

Very creative 😂😂

Thank you for explaining @BattenburgDonkey !
I appear to be using the correct words but not necessarily in the correct order!😃

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 11/06/2022 12:19

MNHQ should move threads to the appropriate place, but they don't. It'd be a lot of work for a while but then people would get the message.

potteringinmysocks · 11/06/2022 12:19

It's bloody annoying. I went through a phase of it really irritating me so me and a few others took to posting YABU on them... long story short got a ticking off from MN as apparently (pointing out that the threads were in the wrong bloody section) was against the spirit of MN.

Maybe if MN actually just Ed moved them the the appropriate areas in the first place people would start using it properly....

JuneJubilee · 11/06/2022 12:19

You again.

stop with the Thread Police routine.

asking on sensitive threads is beyond the pale. It really doesn't matter!

Report to MN if you really must, but stop asking posters why they're posting there.
