To think there doesn’t need to be a ‘Covid’ talk section anymore?

Really what is the point now

OP posts:
JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 10/06/2022 19:36

We don't want them back here though.

A580Hojas · 10/06/2022 19:38

Why does it bother you? There's hundreds of topics barely used on MN.

SaskiaRembrandt · 10/06/2022 19:40

What is the point of a lot of sections? I never visit the sections about prams, or fishkeeping, that doesn't mean the people who frequent them don't appreciate having their own section.

Also, as a historian, the Covid section will be an interesting artefact in decades to come.

Saracenia · 10/06/2022 19:41

This on a day when there are reports of a rise in Covid in England.

ZarquonsSandals · 10/06/2022 19:43

Cases are rising and there are new variants emerging.

tackling · 10/06/2022 19:44

If there are people posting there then there's a point. You can hide it if you don't like it.

mbosnz · 10/06/2022 19:45

Should we replace it with a MonkeyPox section? Or Hepatitis in Kids?

StoneofDestiny · 10/06/2022 19:46

I know more people with Covid now than I ever did during the 'peak'. However, never even knew there was a 'Covid Talk Section'.

carefullycourageous · 10/06/2022 19:51

Yabu to start a pointless thread about something you can ignore.

COVID was massively impactful, isn't over and still of interest to some.

Does the topic trigger you? Hide it.

New variants will always emerge 🤷‍♀️

Quite.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/06/2022 19:54

Just hide it🙄

iamamother · 10/06/2022 19:55

im also loving the fact that when a ‘is this positive?’ thread comes up its now back to it being pregnancy tests 😀

IcedOatLatte · 10/06/2022 19:57

Why pick on covid, there are 100s of topics that some posters don't think are necessary, if you don't want to see it use the hide option. I can't think of a valid reason not to have it as a topic, can you give one?

XenoBitch · 10/06/2022 19:57

Just don't go on it.
I would imagine if you were having a rough time with Covid, you would want to post somewhere about it without people whining about it being in the wrong section.

Covid discussion would be more suited to general health section now, we don’t have a whole section for flu or similar

I have to agree. The worried well jump on covid and often go into the smallest detail on a day by day basis of their symptoms. I have my tin hat on but I think some are beginning to wallow in all of this. I believe we need to move on now and how have the figures jumped when there is no one to report your positive test to?

My DS caught it and didn’t report neither did the two people at work.

Topgub · 17/06/2022 14:27

I think some people bought into the terror so completely that it's good they have some where to talk about it.

Its going to take a lot for some to get over it and some may never be able to get back to normal

Even this thread has people panicking about rising cases and variants despite no evidence there's any risk from either

The sooner we drop all testing the better

RevoltingHumanHead · 17/06/2022 14:30

How does it affect you?

stratforduponavon · 17/06/2022 14:33

Still at present if you have a cold people say ‘well as long as it’s not Covid’. Flu kills 1000’s yet we didn’t behave like this over the last 20 years.

RoseAndRose · 17/06/2022 14:40

You could always just hide the whole topic if it doesn't interest you. That's a joy of a topic that's actually used and rarely leaks into others.

Possibly because
a) flu isnt covid
b) even a bad flu year has way fewer excess deaths than covid
c) even a bad flu year has fewer weekly cases and fewer admissions than covid
d) there are a range of good antivirals for flu, which do not need rationing (as the new covid antivirals still need to be)
e) there has been a vaccination programme for years. OK, its only as good as the strain prediction decisions, but it still makes a difference.

changingstages · 17/06/2022 14:47

just hide it. I don't come on here much any more but I've found the Covid section really useful, particularly as my child was really severely affected by Covid and took a very long time to recover. It was good to be able to ask question and see what was going on with others without being in the main health or chat section where the anti-Covid twats could jump on you about banging on about it.

RoseAndRose · 17/06/2022 14:48

mbosnz · 10/06/2022 19:45

Should we replace it with a MonkeyPox section? Or Hepatitis in Kids?

The only other times that I can recall MN having specific disease topics was for swine flu and for ebola

Both at users request because of the sheer number of threads.

So when there are so many threads that it justifies a topic, then I expect it could happen. I don't think the ones you cite are generating that amount of traffic though. Or at least not yet.
