This will be brief i wrote out the long version and mumsnet ate it up and spat it out ! Grrrr
Basically my issue is my joiner( Bob ) who started work on my house to do new internal doors and filling in a door. He also got some trades in to plaster a wall and a bit of electrical work. He was to lay a floor and put on some new cupboard doors in my hallway.
As there was a delay with the arrival of the floors he texted his bill thus far . Not detailed just x amount for doors, wall and something else. About 2 lines of text. 2 days later I texted him to say floors arriving tomorrow. He replied saying he had permanent job elsewhere and he would hand my work over to his brother. Hadnt done cupboard doors but had ordered the doors which had arrived and were waiting to be fitted.
He overall was unreliable, eg I'll see you Monday and you were lucky to see him by Thursday if not the next week.
I told him I'd find my own joiner and I needed him to send an itemised bill ....so I knew exactly what I was paying for.
In the meantime an ex boss of his (Matthew) got me his excellent and reliable joiner (Andy) to do the work. BUT Bobs efforts produced a door handle that had fallen off one of the new doors, also a door plate was not fixed properly so one door didnt close or lock ie the rarely used Loo door. New joiner Andy is rolling his eyes at the way he has done things and explaining why most of my door handles are difficult to turn. He will try to fix them. But I'm patiently waiting for similar to happen to the rest of them.
The cherry on top though, the custom built cupboard doors £75 each x4 were the wrong size. So new doors have been ordered. Bob didnt know they didnt fit...I dont think.
Itemised bill has arrived yesterday no mention of doors, but I know he hasnt paid Matthew for them, and likely wont. Previous form. Also I will have to pay for Andy's work /time fixing Bobs muck ups.
All suggestions welcome on how I should handle this. Not used to trades people so be gentle !! 😁
