To ask if you’ve had this viral infection?

First symptoms - Aching joints/muscles for over a week
Secondary symptoms after 1 week -
Head ache almost constantly despite painkillers
Hot flushes
hoarsy cough

(Negative Covid tests by the way.)

Anyone else has this recently? I don’t think a viral infection has effected me this badly since I was a child and it’s miserable! Did it last long? My poor (young) kids have it too and must be feeling even more miserable than me!

Ooh possibly! There is something nasty going round that sounds similar. I haven't had the head ache for a week yet though. Do you feel sick at all?

DashboardConfessional · 10/06/2022 13:53

Yes. I needed antibiotics and an inhaler for the first time ever!

IrishSee · 10/06/2022 13:57

Yes, and it's taking ages to go away (though I put the hot flushes down to peri-menopause). The headaches have been really uncomfortable. We all thought it was something we'd picked up from the kids after a recent residential, when half the year group seemed to come home with coughs and colds.

NoGoodUsernamee · 10/06/2022 14:13

@Moosake no sickness no, thankfully.

It does seem to be going on and on! Really miserable!

I've had some kind of virus for over two weeks. Occasional low grade fever, lingering sore throat, croaky voice, annoying wheezy cough, achey, occasional ear ache. And don't know if it's connected, but I also now have gunky eyes like conjunctivitis. Haven't been to a doctor as not much you can do for a virus other than wait for it to go away. Bored of it now!

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 10/06/2022 14:22

Yep it's going round my house too. I feel worse with this than I did with bloody covid.

Oh good thats a relief. Sounds like I might be a bit behind. I've just had excruciating muscle pains and aches and head feels a bit swimmy. Been covid testing.

NoGoodUsernamee · 10/06/2022 14:42

I didn’t think we could be alone, although don't know anyone in real life with it! My eldest and DH seem to have avoided it somehow!

Yes! DP and I both had it a couple months ago and my poor mum is just getting over it now too. We both felt absolutely dire and it didn't help that I got it quite soon after having Covid so was still knackered from that!

I can only sympathise and warn you not to overdo it as you're recovering - you will probably be really bloody exhausted so take it easy and don't push it too much.

Thelnebriati · 10/06/2022 14:47

Its the headaches that are getting to me, I never get headaches. I take painkillers for another condition and they aren't really dealing with them. How long do they last?

Cathyt90 · 10/06/2022 14:47

Yes! Very achy muscles and joints, headache, occasional dizziness, fatigued, hot flushes, swollen neck glands. Just starting to feel better now after about 10 days. Covid tests negative.

sheepandcaravan · 10/06/2022 14:51

I took kids away to centre parcs myself for a few days. Both sick in car way home, then me, then DH, then fever started, turned into tonsillitis in one child, then DH and I started getting like ulcers and blood blisters in mouths, and now my eyes. OMG. Just a virus allegedly.

Noshowlomo · 10/06/2022 14:55

Yes! Two weeks ago it was horrific. Run down, super achy legs, hips and pelvis. Felt like I couldn’t move. Barely ate or drank anything and was boiling one minute and sweating profusely the next. It was horrible. And also tonsillitis as well with it. Antibiotics and ibuprofen sorted me out but I felt weak for days after it.

Yodaisawally · 10/06/2022 14:55

Yep. Other viruses are still available. We all had it as did most of my office.

Ragwort · 10/06/2022 15:05

Yes ! DH got it first ... just as he retired after never having a day off sick in his whole working career! Now passed on to me, totally washed out for three days but a little better today and managed to get up, get dressed and showered and slob in front of tv.

Useyourfork · 10/06/2022 15:15

I’ve been following Anthony J. Leonardi (expert on T cells) on Twitter who has theorised that Covid can cause T cell dysfunction and therefore reduces your body’s ability to fight off subsequent infections.
I can believe it as in real life as I know someone who had pneumonia shortly after a Covid infection. I myself had breathing problems with a mild cold that I’ve never had before.😕

Pieceofpurplesky · 10/06/2022 16:28

I have had this a few days. Negative test but now positive (after about 6 days)

NoGoodUsernamee · 10/06/2022 16:42

I don’t know if we’re just focusing on illnesses more since Covid or id they’re genuinely effecting us more! But I can’t remember feeling this rough in my whole adult life. Feels like my immunity is definitely struggling! The hot flushes are horrible! I’m so sweaty in all my joints/crevices 🤮😂

& the aches… feels like I ran a marathon yesterday!

The neck glands freaked me out a bit.

DashboardConfessional · 10/06/2022 20:29

I've not had Covid and still felt awful with this virus.

Nidan2Sandan · 10/06/2022 20:32

I had a low grade cold for over a month, was awful. Bad enough to make me feel terrible, but not so bad to justify time off work. I finally turned a corner and felt well then BAM 3 weeks later and I'm full of cold again with the added joy of hayfever.

Ownedbymycats · 10/06/2022 20:53

I've been ill for about 8 days now, similar symptoms but also had a horrible rash on my neck and chest I've a cough which can keep going until I vomit. I thought I'd recovered slightly and did some shopping only to terrify an elderly lady in our local supermarket.I wanted to tell her I've been testing negative every day for covid but I was coughing so much I could hardly breathe.
