Absolutely ridiculous Year 9 revision

DS is 14 and revising for end of year 9 tests in maths, science and English. The science revision is frankly, fucking ridiculous.

Hes come home with a booklet with 2 pages of lists & websites for each topic plus a really complicated 4 page booklet on revision tips. It’s totally overwhelming and I got stressed reading it. He doesn’t know where to start & what to prioritise as a lot of it is about using multiple websites for loads of different information.

Aibu to think it’s a LOT of pressure for a 14 year old? I know it’s ‘build up to GCSEs’ and all that but it feels like terrible revision practise to say ‘heres 10 websites, crack on’

i know I am old fashioned!!

Post a pic here and maybe someone can help

Hasn't he got a textbook and notes bhe has made/been given throughout the year?
I would get him to start on the topic he is least confident on, look at the reources for that, answer some question, until he feels he has a reasonable grasp.Which is the weakest topic now? Repeat

Start with his books and notes and the use the websites to fill in the gaps when he doesn’t understand something/wants more practice.

This is good advice.
He should already have most of the information in his own books.
The websites will be just to top up.

Do you know if they have started the gcse syllabus for science yet? Lots start in y9. If so just get the cgp guide and revise off that.
I agree relying on multiple websites for revision is unhelpful.

Valeriekat · 09/06/2022 20:05

Just use the exam revision guides and don't waste time.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 09/06/2022 20:11

Best resource is Free Science Lessons - videos for every single topic, very clearly explained. CGP revision books alongside should be more than enough.

GCSE sciences have a huge amount of content, unfortunately.

That’s the thing- he’s not got any textbooks! It’s all this online stuff- I’d be delighted if we had books!

Find out which board they are doing, and get the CGP revision book.

Where is all the work/notes etc he should have done in class this year?

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 10/06/2022 11:47

My year nine has been told to revise after every science lesson all through the year and be ready for a a test at any time. I do think the work seems a lot but tend to stay right out of it !
