To dislike my parents

My mother thinks women are inferior to men, believes in 'women's jobs' and 'men's jobs' and has said it's not right that women are priests, pilots etc. That women shouldn't have muscles. (I weight train). She makes sweeping racist comments too. I always pick her up on it and try to challenge her thinking but she says I'm attacking her. I'm not.

Step dad is homophobic. I've tried unpicking his thoughts to try to positively inform him and open his mind but it remains firmly shut. He has more of an issue with a gay man than a lesbian woman. 🙄

As I get older I'm becoming increasingly intolerant to their views and feel like I just don't like them as people.

Aibu? Has anyone else experienced this?

I wouldn't bother trying to open the minds of people like this, whose prejudices are so entrenched. Do you very much to do with them?

I'm assuming, as you are weight training and have associated muscles, you are just doing what you want to do with your life and not giving them too much influence in your life? 🌹

Thankfully their views have had zero impact on mine. I'm lucky to have a wide circle of friends from all walks of life, I cannot fathom any of their opinions.

I have contact with them both regularly but it feels like contact out of obligation. I dread spending time in their company, I know one of them will say something abhorrent. 😔

I have minimal contact with them.
