I just found out that tax free childcare exists. It has never been mentioned to me by nursery or anyone I know from midwives all the way through my child's development. I am quite surprised that information about these types of government schemes isn't made more available. I know the onus is on me to discover these things, but I had no idea the scheme existed so wouldn't be looking for it!

It's freely available info, assuming your employer offers the scheme how could you have missed it?

Tax free childcare isn’t arranged through your employer though.

Do you know about 30 hours funding, and primary school application timescales? sorry you’ve been missing out, OP, that’s a pain.

I'm aware of the 30 hours, but the tax free childcare doesn't seem to be well known. I know there was a vouchers scheme through work but that ended before I had my child, and work has nothing to say there is a tax free option.

Nurseries don't mention it at all, and there's nowhere else that notes the scheme is available. I don't know how someone who isn't aware of it would find out about it, unless you were randomly searching for benefits?!

I only stumbled across it during my 30 hours application, and I saw a link! What's done is done, but I'm just so surprised. I'm usually very across these types of things, but I didn't know what to look for so was completely unaware. I guess with covid and less interaction with other mums, there's less chance of someone telling me.
