What is this pain in my heel??

For a few days now I’ve had pain in the heel of my foot. It’s at its worst when I get up in the morning and then is bad when I’ve been sitting and get up again. I can’t tell if it’s muscular or not. I’m hobbling like I’m 90. After work I think I’m going to apply heat and see if it relaxes the muscles and of that helps. Any other tips?

I had it and it was really painful. It developed over a winter and was bad enough that I couldn't walk with a full stride, I had to do a shuffle like a prisoner wearing ankle cuffs. I followed a waking up exercise program from YouTube which involved doing movements before getting out of bed and them more while I was still sitting on the edge of my bed. They really helped. Then in the summer it disappeared completely and started to come back in the autumn. Which is how I worked out that it was a change from cotton socks to bamboo socks that had caused it. I threw out all the bamboo socks and haven't had pain since. Bamboo socks are much softer and smoother and I think I was having micro-slipping with every step that triggered it.

Thanks all. I will get googling! I could do with losing some weight and also I changed shoes a couple of weeks ago and was wearing ballet pumps. That won’t have helped.

I had this, in both feet.

Admittedly, I'd gained a couple of stone after leaving Ex, what with being able to eat what I wanted and not having my food controlled.

I googled and got information on self help, have lost that extra weight and working on losing more, and got a lightly spiked roller that I used both at work and home. Plus I got supportive shoes, or insoles for other shoes.

It's gone now, and my brother has developed it so I gave him the roller, which seems to be helping him.

I do still wear flat shoes occasionally, but sensibly. I don't wear them two days in a row.

I had it when I worked in a supermarket. Loads of colleagues had it. The flat concrete floors made it worse. Sketchers were brilliant and stretching. Also ice and elevation after a long shift.
