How do you handle seeing an ex?

I feel like a bit of a loony writing this, but I unexpectedly saw one of my exes in a shop today, one whom is from long long ago and I have NO wistful feelings for whatsoever, but no hard feelings either we are friends on SM but don’t speak. Basically I ran away and hid! He didn’t see me. What is it about bumping into exes that makes people nervous like that. I should have just said hi. He was with who was presumably his current wife/partner so part of it was just not wanting to create an awkward moment. And I have social anxiety in general, but it did get me thinking, what is the right thing to say to an ex if you see them? Is it weird to be friendly and strike up a conversation or is it a bit inappropriate? I’m just not good in situations with unspoken social rules!

I dumped exh my text 10 years ago this month. Never seen him since the night before that text...

There are so many factors that would affect how you see an ex. Was it a messy break up? Was it years ago? Was it a long relationship? Etc.....

Last time I saw an ex unexpectedly on a night out I had to rush off to the ladies for a nervous poo!

Depends on how it ended tbh....
But honestly on the 2 occasions ive seen exs, 1 time i saw them first and slinked off in the opposite direction the other time they saw me and said hi and i wished is had the opportunity to hide.
Its just horribly awkward. Its someone who you used to know intimately that you dont anymore... im with you, i would hide..
Unless however i was dressed up and knew i was looking good... but usually its running into them somewhere where you look crap

Well I don't care how my ex is doing so I'd probably walk in the other direction.

Accidentally butt dialled my ex last week after 6 months. Ended up accidentally having sex with him That’s probably not the approved greeting though. If I’d bumped into him with another woman I’d have probably wobbled a smile and a hello, nice to see you and then gone and cried somewhere.

I saw an ex years ago walking directly towards me. I was with a friend, he was alone. He saw me and looked like he wanted to say something.

I pretended not to know him and just walked past. I could see the shock in his eyes but I wasn't prepared to see him. I'd like to believe I am more mature now and would maybe say hello.

Just be grateful you don't have to see one in court like me .

I'd hide too!! Unless it was one ex who is lovely and I'm still friends with.
