To ask about coolscoping and breastfeeding

Hi all, looking for some insights from any bio-scientists / medics/ similar. I understand that it is not recommended to have coolscoping while you are breastfeeding because it kills of fat cells, which then enter your blood and then potentially your breastmilk. My question is why and how harmful is this to a baby? What would be the mechanism for causing harm? Really grateful for any insights…

(No doubt there will be some people jumping on here to have a go, but what I’m seeking is scientific input for educational purposes. Many thanks !)

Are you a student doing research?

Not a medic, but logic suggests that milk which is partially composed of dead fat cells would be less nourishing.

I'm not an expert in CoolSculpting, nor am I a medic - but I do work in science and DW is a biology teacher...my (simplified) understanding is this.

CoolSculpting, very rapidly, kills off fat cells in your body - which your body then breaks down in your liver and excretes via exhaling air or urinating. When your body breaks down fat, it produces a molecule called a ketone. Ketones are acidic. If you have too many in your blood, it can turn your blood acidic and that can cause problems for your organs (which don't work with acidic blood). This is called ketoacidosis. This is why it's dangerous to burn too much fat too fast, but it's rarely a problem except for diabetics or women with HG. Given that your breastmilk is made from substances from your bloodstream, an increase in ketones in your blood, would likely mean more ketones in your milk - causing your milk to turn acidic, which isn't good for the baby. It could also cause the baby harm to ingest too many ketones.
